The only people it excludes are the fair weather fans too lazy to make the drive. Bowling Green is an excellent location because they want it there and they can accomodate it there.

State Titles are officially meaningless in KY. Running clock in a state title game? What an absolute joke.

 

And people wonder why Highlands gets no respect as soon as they cross the river. Mind-boggling to me.

Since we are dismissing the road to the state titles then I guess that makes the state titles in Ohio a joke since your two best teams only meet in the finals. Gotcha. :thumb:

The last time the Birds had a close State Title game was during the first three qtrs. of the 2008 game against Christian Co. After that, it's been blowout city. I think if a competitive game was expected, many more would travel, but everyone knows Highlands is going to roll Collins. It's tough to blow a full Saturday at Christmas time for something I can watch at home later. This may sound ridiculous to some, but many others feel the same way. It's called time management. Wish Highlands the best.

How many other Highlands fans share Whackem's lack of enthusiasm for Highlands success? Are you also so bored with being as good as you guys are that you won't bother to support the Birds this Saturday?

Seems that way. Collins' QB isn't as talented as some of the other QBs they have seen this year and they defeated those quarterbacks and Highlands beat them by 50 points last year so all signs point to another 50 point blowout this year.

It takes about 3 1/2 hours to get to Bowling Green. Nice easy drive. We have been doing it since '09. Also, Highlands fans travel well to state games whether they are in Louisville or Bowling Green. And have been known to travel well to games like Johnson Central, Whitley County, Hazard, etc. To some of the playoff games that have been approximately 2 hours more or less, the fans usually get together and get a couple of 52 passenger busses. Then you have some fans that have their own luxury busses that bring another large group. Heck, not long ago, two "long" busses to Lexington Catholic was the norm. I remember renting 4 big busses to go to state in Louisville and the same in Bowling Green. The last couple of years in Bowling Green, it seems more fans are renting their own , what I call "rock star" bus, to take friends and family. Heck, I have seen at least 4 or 5 of those busses on any given Saturday in Bowling Green parked around the Highlands tailgate. Highlands fans travel well. And to up and coming Highlands fans I have some words of wisdom, "Ask not what your football team can do for you but what you can do for your football team":thumb:

You won't get the barrel if the school is providing the bus. However, if you want to take it on yourself, get the bus, fill it with friends and take the financial risk, you can have whatever beverage you want on the bus.

It's not a lack of enthusiasm. I'm just saying it's tough to drive several hours to watch a potential running clock in the second quarter. They shouldn't even have a running clock rule for a State Title game in the first place.

Look, you've got three groups of folks that go to Highlands games; the alumni contingent, the parents of the players, and everyone else. The everyone else group enjoys watching good football on Friday nights in their community but when you ask them to drive to Bowling Green, they look at you like you have two heads. I know, I've asked several peeps that usually go to the games with me and they all bail out when it comes to the drive and their excuse is always the same.

Not sure why some are wondering why Highlands fans won't make the drive several hours when many teams that Highlands has played this year had fans you could count on one hand. Many didn't even attend games in their own back yard.
