November 18, 201510 yr Doing Thanksgiving at mom and dad's this year, and they're having a bigger crowd than usual. The turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberry relish, rolls, sweet potato casserole, green beans, pumpkin pie and pecan pie are already claimed. I was told to "pick something" to bring as a dish or dessert. Any suggestions? What about an appetizer? Sounds like dinner and dessert are all filled up.
November 18, 201510 yr I can tell you what is not on my list. Anything my mother-in-law touches in the kitchen. Most horrendous cook I have ever come in contact with. She makes one thing for any event, special occasion, or holiday... and that is carrot cake. It too is wretched. She once burned fully cooked turkey sausage.
November 18, 201510 yr What about an appetizer? Sounds like dinner and dessert are all filled up. I suppose I could do that. Any suggestions for a Thanksgiving appropriate appetizer? Seems like the occasion would call for it to be a bit of a step up from the usual chips and dip fare.
November 18, 201510 yr I love various aspects, but you have to go turkey, don't you? I have now began eating turkey breasts more frequently, but that week of Thanksgiving there is something special to it.

Our waistlines expand over the Holidays, any time you can sneak in a healthy option it can help curb future appetites. Either that or a simple salad with a basic vinaigrette you can whip up in 5 minutes.

It's the one time you can eat whatever you want.

Eating whatever you want doesn't have to mean as much as you want I may get banned from this thread, but one tip I have is to use a salad plate when you get your main course. We end up stuffing our plates anyways, and we are visual eaters, so cutting the size of your plate still gives you plenty of food and knocks down the calories by 25%-35% I would say.
November 18, 201510 yr Hosting my first Thanksgiving this year. In charge of the turkey. Plan to butterfly it and throw it on the smoker.
November 18, 201510 yr I'm a big fan of leftover turkey sandwiches while watching football. Daughter and sons are handling the cooking this year and they're talking some kind of wrap using various leftovers-turkey, dressing, potatoes, cranberries, etc. To paraphrase Tom Hanks, "there's no wraps on Thanksgiving"!
November 18, 201510 yr Love everything about Thanksgiving, but especially look forward to the Onion Pie that my sister always makes – it is awesome! This year I’ve been asked to bring a veggie casserole (no problem, I’ll make broccoli) and a sweet potato casserole. Yikes on the sweet potato, let me know if anyone has a suggestion/ go to recipe.
