Unfair?? These boys go out and work their butts off night after night, to keep the tradition going at NCC. They don't have the best players in 2A walking in the doors, they develop their team so they can go out and compete wk after wk. Take a look at their schedule, they play a tough schedule so they can better prepare themselves for games like this. For anybody to write an article saying what was said is what's unfair!

 

I said "almost" seems unfair. You're right, NCC does the best with the hand they were dealt. Hope they keep fighting thru the tough times their facing and keep winning.

A debate for another thread...BUT, the only schools in KY that are "geographically limited" are the public schools that choose to be "geographically limited". A student can attend any high school they want and play sports. There are no limitations unless the school system sets limitations. Any kid in Pulaski County or even surrounding counties can attend Somerset if they want, unless Somerset chooses to not allow it. The KHSAA and KY rules will allow it. Just setting the record straight.

 

It's a little bit different in Somerset/Pulaski County. The Pulaski County School System only allows 250 kids that live in one of the County districts to attend Somerset. That's 250 kids from K-12, not in high school. Those 250 kids pay around $500 in tuition to the County system to help offset the revenue from the state lost by them attending Somerset. If Somerset chose to accept more than 250 kids from the Pulaski County districts then the County school system would not release the money that they receive from the state for those students and would likely not renew the contract. So technically yes, Somerset could accept students from anywhere but to remain financially viable they have to abide by the terms of the contract with Pulaski County. Accepting students from other counties really isn't a factor as Somerset High School is at least 20 miles from any county line except Rockcastle which is about 15 miles away.

 

I've got no problem with NCC or any of the other private schools and don't see that NCC is at any advantage given the number of schools in that area--I just wanted to illustrate that it isn't as easy as you make it sound. Just setting the record straight.

I think this is being a little overblown. It's pretty much been known for a while how a decent amount of the Somerset faithful feel about NCC and private schools. It's just a shame when this stuff pops up every time Somerset faces NCC. NCC has a tradition that attracts players from Dayton, Bellevue, Newport, Ft. Thomas, Cold Springs, Southgate, etc. Why? Because all of these cities have feeder schools (in the case of Dayton, Bellevue, and Newport it combined to be Holy Trinity) to NCC. All being catholic schools. You will be hard pressed to find NCC students NOT from those areas. It'll be very few, and most will not play football. It's just the way it is, which makes such a persistent issue by the Somerset faithful who believe such completely unbased. For example, a parent attends NCC, maybe marries another parent from the area, may have attended NCC or not; and that kid is probably headed to NCC. It's a tradition, just look at the last names of these kids.

Yeah, some people don't have an issue with it. That's why I put a decent amount of the Somerset faithful. Glad to see you're in the category that's more reasonable. I do think it ultimately sums up to Somerset wants to win against NCC, and such frustration is why A LOT of this private/public school comes up. Overall, I agree; it should be a good game on Friday.

I can't remember any Somerset poster even bringing it up on here this season or last. Just because a writer put a blurb in an article that he wrote doesn't mean that his opinion is the prevailing attitude.

I bet they did. NCC has some very talented players. It's amazing that they have that kind of talent year in and year out. It almost seems unfair.
