Great season for the Royals, but just too much speed from Bourbon County tonight.

Bourbon jumped out to a 14-0 lead before the Royals knew what hit them. Lots of speed at every position for the Colonels. Mason County had plenty of chances but seemed to get bogged down in the red zone. Killer play was the kick return for a TD that everybody thought was made after a fair catch signal - still a close (something like 21-10) game at that point. Glad to see starting QB Pope back for BC ; and congrats to the Colonels on the win!

Congrats also to the Royals. From 2-8 and missing the playoffs in a relatively weak 6-team district to back-to-back regional finals appearances and the first 12-0 start in school history.

McPapa, if work allows am going to try and make the Bourbon County game next week, how's the parking? any recommendations? Is it best to park a good distance away and walk? Thanks

We got there 15 minutes before game time and got one of the last "school spots". Belfry may bring a bigger contingent than Mason County.

Get there an hour or so before kickoff and you shouldn't have any problem.

PS - it's free.

The better team won tonight. Bourbon Co is ranked number one for a reason. No reason for Mason County to hang their head. Great season by the coaches and players.

I know the game is over....but can anyone explain to me the rule on the fair catch. If a player signals fair catch....can another player come in..catch the ball and take off. Not complaining at all.......just looking for clarification.

Bourbon County winning makes me remember the "old BGP days" when we had a Bourbon County fan who just died every time Bourbon lost which back then was very often.

What was his name?

Yes, saw that play. Didn't make much sense to me! For those who weren't there:

Player A was standing, preparing to catch the kickoff, signaled for a fair catch. Player B, literally like Ken Griffey JR. used to do, swooped in at the last possible second and took the ball (I'm 99.9% sure player A didn't touch it) and zoomed past a slowing Mason Co. Kick coverage team for an easy touchdown. I've never seen such a thing, and if that's legal, why don't more teams do it?

I can't imagine that is allowed.

Congrats to Bourbon on the win. I said before that the winner of this game would run the table and win 3A.

ChiefSmoke and the boys have nothing to be upset with. One heck of a season!

Bourbon County, maybe more so than any other program in the state, has been all over the spectrum - from state champs and this years this team to very bad and prolonged losing streak.

Congrats to Coach Buchanan, coaching staff, player's, cheerleader's and fans on a great season and a great one to hold your heads up. Made it deep in the playoffs and a very successful season for the outgoing seniors. Congrats and best of luck in your future. JD

That's exactly how the radio guys described it. That was a huge play, I think making a 14-10 game a 21-10 game.
