Courier-Journal Preseason Top 25

I like Chris Hudson but I'm not sure Hazard is a top 25 team, either.

9th Region fans...do you rank Holmes higher than NCC?

Nice to see three 9th region teams in the top 25. Cov Cath should probably move up a bit. Should be another very exciting year for the 9th region. I am looking forward to it.

Rigth now I like NCC over Holmes. Both teams are solid and very talented. I think NCC has a little more depth than they did last season. Point guard for both very solid but I like the NCC bigs inside a little more, so for now I give the advantage to the Breds. We shall see!

If you were ranking the 11th where would you rank Lafayette?

Top 5.

A lot of teams will be good, not great. If Scott County can get consistent PG play and Raekwon Long can develop I would put them at the top for sure.

1.) Scott County

2.) Lafayette

3.) Lexington Christian (Could surprise some people)

4.) Henry Clay

5.) Franklin County (return a lot from a good team)

6.) Bryan Station (could probably move up, they just don't have much height as far as I know)

7.) Lexington Catholic

I could easily be forgetting a few, but that's my list off the top of my head.

No way there are 11 teams in the state that are better than NCC.

They are solid at every position!

I'm on the same page as Men..... (the BGP'er who posted above with the extremely long screen name!! lol).

And at the end of the year...... the player of the year in the 9th will be McDonald and the gap between Bolden and Pangallo at the point isn't as great as some believe on this site.

How are we grading the PG gap?

Bolden has a better shot. Can get his shot much better. Tighter handle. Quicker. Killer crossover. Can hit the 3 off of the pick with a defender in his face.

I was one of the early advocates of Pangallo's ability but there is a wide gap IMO.

I have to ask, how many of the teams ranked above them are you familiar with?

I should rephrase my post....

I should have said..... 'I can't believe there could be' instead of 'No way there are' as I am not familiar with everyone one of the teams listed ahead of NCC.

My point being, NCC is loaded this year and in my opinion, there can't be 11 teams better than them in the state.

A Lville coach to me on the 9th region...

"That region is loaded. They have potentially 4 of the top 15 teams in the state." ....in reference to Holmes, Newcath, Dixie, and Covcath.

Take it FWIW.

I'm not disputing that claim. And I think it's been stated in this forum before how talented this 2014 class is. This has the making of a great season.

College coaches called and they disagree with you.

I like Drew and Zach both and am a big fan of their game but there is a gap between Bolden and those two.

Drew will have a great year and has the opportunity to potentially play at Rupp Arena this year, but I think Hatton winning Player of the year happens before McDonald. And knowing Drew, he'd take the team accomplishment over any individual awards.

I think Hatton and Justice may battle it out for scoring leaders in the Commonwealth this season.

Nope to the bolded.

Hatton or Bolden.

Chalmes will hold his own against MacDonald and Schulte. That gap may be closer than the 2 guards.

Also NCC's athletes at every position will spread the wealth so MacDonalds number may be diluted.

Back to the thread. I am not a fan of state wide rankings. Hard enough to rank a district or a region. Especially pre season before any team has played a real game.

It will be a great year for hoops with lots of surprises!

I'd agree with that. Having more help around him this year will give Hatton a lot more open looks.

Add Bach & I agree.

I watched Bolden tear Scott County apart on Tuesday. He seemed to do whatever he wanted. I was skeptical of all the hype on him, but if there's a better PG in NKY I'd like to see it.
