Is the another materially illegal action? The executive branch can not (or used to not be able to) change a law arbitrarily.

 

If the law needs material changes then Congress needs to roll up its sleeves - and pass legally valid updates to the law that the President can then sign into legal law.

 

Exactly, it's the President job to enforce the laws not change them to his whims.

 

The only legal fix is an legislative fix...this needs to go to Supreme Court for a ruling and then back to congress to change the law.

Really, the Govt has more computing power than just about anyone privately and they don't do I.T. well?

The insurance companies are calling foul already.

 

They already set rates based on the law and its impact. They have already ran and published the numbers based on the changes. They have set premiums. They have already sent over five million communications of cancellations and more are probably already in the mail or being printed.

 

Not that they are innocent in this whole debacle but it puts them on the spot.

 

Chaos continues. This is not a simple 'fix'.

Regardless of gone or patched its a legal mess. Even a full repeal at this stage is no 'fix' since it takes months of planning by insurance companies to create new policies and rates. The January 1st disaster of millions going uninsured is all but certain.

 

I know a lawyer who specializes in insurance field - he has no of lack of new work right now.

The timing of of the announcement yesterday was probably related to H.R. 3350 that goes for a vote today.

The announcement gives political cover to Dems not voting for the bill to keep it from gaining momentum.

 

And the President already indicated he would veto the bill. That would mean he thinks it can through the Democratically controlled Senate and he needs to kill it in the crib with a veto threat to imply a yes vote would be a waste of time.
