First of all let me say that in a time where there seems to be alot of contention amoung certain schools that Boyd Co, coaches, players, ad, trainer, and especially the fans were great last night. The respect and patience they showed during the Garnes cerimony will never be forgotten by this Rose Hill fan.

 

About the game, how about a tip of the hat to Chad Jackson. I thought he absolutely controlled the game. Defensively he did a great job of making Owens work for every point he got and offensively his ball handling reminded me of another Rose Hill 8th grader from the past.

 

Frances, let me answer your question about Tim Fraley. He can absolutely coach. He along with his assistants made a great subsitution at the end of last nights game. With 7.1 seconds remaining they subsituted Synder into the game and he makes the game saving block.

 

On the "cheap shot" issue. Not a chance it was a cheap shot, a moving screen absolutely but not an attempt to hurt Owens. I thought that Selby was leaning to his left on his screens also.

 

Regardless of money the Rose Hill kids were robbed of their chance to play their district tournament on their home floor. I hope the crowds are hug for the next three years. Get out and support the tournament, keep the average attendance up and lets see how important finances are in 3 years. If you catch my drift. :thumb:

Great atmosphere with a wonderful and moving ceremony between two great games...and I was pleased that it was announced just why the game with BC was chosen as the night to commemorate David Garnes. I hope that Coach Pratt, his players and the BC fans understand just how much the Rose Hill community appreciates them.

 

I couldn't take my eyes off of Rob Garnes after the varsity win. He stood and smiled on the endline while players and students celebrated at halfcourt. How full his heart must have been just then. May that memory provide continued comfort to him and his family in the months and years to come.

 

Congratulations to the Royals. Throw out the second quarter and what you had was a great effort...on both ends of the floor...with timely contributions from each Rose Hill player...and the kind of effort that could take them to Morehead as the District Champion.

This has been a rough year for anybody predicting games in the 16th region hasn't it Frances! I may have been the only one that was preoccupied with the Boyd/Fairview matchup in the district, but this has definitely changed my whole thought about this districts tourney. Sure is going ot be an interesting one from start to finish ain't it!

If those in charge are really more worried about, among other priorities, maximizing money than they are about what is fair to the kids, maybe we should assume that Judas was an AD (just a little humor of sorts).

 

Kyhoops#23, my point was that you could have gotten around 400 more into the Rose Hill gymnasium last night. Rose Hill's crowd was as big or larger than it would be for a district game this year. Ashland wouldn't bring any more to the first round game than Boyd County brought last night. That would still leave a lot of room for others- including Ashland's pep band.

 

Frances, although the wounded parties didn't actually bring the gun, I would say any wounds were self-inflicted. However, lessons appear to have been learned.

 

Boyd County and Fairview are first rate operations. All in all, they are clearly the two best teams in this county. It is unfortunate that they must face each other in the first round of the district. Nonetheless, one strong element of the rich history of Kentucky high school basketball is the "luck of the draw". I am pleased that it will remain for the foreseeable future in this district.

 

After watching the game, I would say that Bair and Jackson are becoming well known in this area. Of course, Euton already appeared on the radar screen. None had the impact of Owens but, then, they are 8th graders. Owens was a pleasure to watch. He is by far the best player in the district this year. Selby is a strong physical force as is Snyder. A little banging around is part of the game.

 

Both teams, coaches, fans, and schools should be commended. It was a good example of neighbors getting along and displaying some mutual respect. We don't always see that around here.

The first issue is money, then Blue (Orange, Maroon) Blazer chimes in to say the District Host should be the school with the most tradition and the most banners...boy that sounds fair...let's just play the Regional and State Tournaments there as well.
