He just did it so I'm not sure why you don't think it's possible. I don't bet so... Just proving the point again that math alone doesn't always work. The A's are a perfect example. Beane is one that does use the math and while they have had success they haven't been in a WS. That proves your theory of math working for a season but it doesn't win you championships.
October 30, 201312 yr It's not my opinion. Hence, "everyone in baseball...". I hear it all the time on MLB Network, Baseball Tonight and read it in plenty of articles. Those aren't my opinions. The same guys that judge by eye that are being proven wrong time and time again. Here's an example of someone that didn't think Jocketty could adjust to the times: Chairman and CEO Bill DeWitt Jr.'s visionary thinking transformed Cardinals | cardinals.com: News They were right. Jocketty does deplete the system and sign guys to terrible contracts.

What the A's and Rays have done in the regular season with their limitations is pretty darn remarkable. It hasn't turned into a title yet but they have a vision and a plan that works and will work for years to come whereas the Reds went all in for 2013.

But his approach with 2 strikes has to be different than 0 or 1 strike, regardless of how many balls he has.(pun intended) What good could possibly come of taking a strike with 2 strikes? That's why he swings. Hit it into the 3rd base dugout and get another pitch. Baseball 101.
December 6, 201312 yr Most hitters on 3-1 or 2-0 counts will be sitting on a particular pitch and in a particular zone. If they don't get it, they tip their cap to the pitcher and just get ready for the next pitch. No one should be forced to swing on a hitter's count especially when it is the Pitcher at that point that is likely to leave a ball hanging...
