January 5, 201412 yr He had 44 K's looking last year... 32% of his strikeouts were looking last year, His career average is 24%. Only 32% of his hits last year were extra base hits. His career average is 40%, where if you took out last year it was around 42%. Votto used to feast off of 2 strike pitches. The thing that struck me as odd, statistically he was more patient in 2012, yet that was when he was at his best. His only hits in 2013 came when he was ahead in the count, his average 0-2 was around .215. In 2012 it was .265 roughly. He needs to change something SSC. You're wrong. He doesn't want to change his approach therefore youre actually wrong.
January 5, 201412 yr I agree with you but this thread was about what Votto has to improve on. If he keeps his production like he did last year, he better be moved to the 2 hole in the lineup. He should hit 2nd. Also all teams best hitters should hit 2nd.
January 6, 201412 yr He should hit 2nd. Also all teams best hitters should hit 2nd. Problem with the Reds is, then they'd be missing a decent 3 hole hitter.
January 6, 201412 yr Problem with the Reds is, then they'd be missing a decent 3 hole hitter. Maybe the new manager will see the light.
January 6, 201412 yr Problem with the Reds is, then they'd be missing a decent 3 hole hitter. Bruce could do it but I get your point. No matter what they are missing a needed better hitter.
January 6, 201412 yr Bruce could do it but I get your point. No matter what they are missing a needed better hitter. Agree. But then what about the 4 spot? And so on......... This is why I didn't pound on Dusty too much when the lineups came out. At the end of the day, they didn't have the horses. Especially when Luddy went down AND came back too late to make a difference.
January 8, 201412 yr Agree. But then what about the 4 spot? And so on......... This is why I didn't pound on Dusty too much when the lineups came out. At the end of the day, they didn't have the horses. Especially when Luddy went down AND came back too late to make a difference. Yes they need another hitter. That doesn't mean Cozart and Izturis should hit 2nd though just b/c eventually there will be a weak spot or two.
January 8, 201412 yr My way too early Votto 2014 prediction: .321BA 28 HR 113 RBI .433 OBP I'd take that!
January 8, 201412 yr Yes they need another hitter. That doesn't mean Cozart and Izturis should hit 2nd though just b/c eventually there will be a weak spot or two. We agree. You can stop trying to validate your stance. Only point I was making is that this team is full of huge offensive holes.
January 8, 201412 yr My way too early Votto 2014 prediction: .321BA 28 HR 113 RBI .433 OBP I've been saying, monstrous year.
January 8, 201412 yr Author I've been saying, monstrous year. And I wholeheartedly agree. I'll add, if the Reds happen to sniff the postseason, he'll add some more hardware to his mantle.
January 8, 201412 yr If Votto wants 100 RBI he better hit 40 home runs. There is going to be little production in the top 2 IMO. Votto finishes .320 BA 30 HR 85 RBI .425 OBP 115 K's .550 Slg. NL MVP esque. I cant wait to see a healthy Votto
January 8, 201412 yr My way too early Votto 2014 prediction: .321BA 28 HR 113 RBI .433 OBP If that's the case, I think the Reds are back in the playoffs again.
February 27, 201412 yr Has anyone caught any or all of the Votto sessions on Lance McCalister's show? He has eviscerated all his critics.
