December 9, 201312 yr Completely and totally agree, with less than 2 strikes. He knows what he's doing. I'm not really questioning him and his approach, unless his approach is to take a 3rd strike because he doesn't like it. I think this season was an anomaly. As UKMF stated, he focused on rehab more than hitting last offseason. Dude takes at least 100 of swings per day. Even if he missed one month of preparation that could be close to 3,000 swings. Probably closer to 2,000 - 2,500. I think he's going to have a huge year. He knows what he can be and what he was. I have total faith in him. We are all in the same boat.

January 1, 201412 yr I dont want him to swing at pitches outside the strikezone. I just dont want him to ever head back to the dugout with the bat on his shoulder. Also he doesnt seem to show up in big time situations when needed. I wish he didnt get hurt in 2012, because that ruined his approach IMO. He would foul pitches off until he saw something he liked, but last year he watched them. He just was never comfortable. Plus in 2012 he was on pace to put up some nmumbers that nobody has seen before, and I think he would have won the MVP that year. Hopefully with an offseason where there is no injury needed to be treated, he will be able to resume where he left off in 2012.
January 1, 201412 yr If look look at his 2012 stats, he had more doubles in 111 games than he did in 162 last year. 44 in 2012, and 30 in 2013 which is not right for a 3 hole hitter at all. He struck out .75 times per game in 2012 where in 2013 it was .85. In 2013 he had his lowest fly ball percentage of his career which means he didn't have his normal power. Also dont get me started on his fielding last year... I look for him to have a huge 2014

His approach was different. All eyeball though. Maybe there's a stat out there for that logarithmic analysis. You continue to bang the drum for every snippet a reporter puts out there because they lack column fillers. And that's okay. But he wouldn't be typing that drivel if most people thought your way, think about it.

That is the point, 1st and 2nd pitch strikes have zero to do with 3rd strikes. You just explained where his approach needs to change. Taking less 3rd strikes. For the record, I believe he will have a monstrous year and this will be long forgotten. He will finally be mentally and physically healthy.
January 1, 201412 yr He had 44 K's looking last year... 32% of his strikeouts were looking last year, His career average is 24%. Only 32% of his hits last year were extra base hits. His career average is 40%, where if you took out last year it was around 42%. Votto used to feast off of 2 strike pitches. The thing that struck me as odd, statistically he was more patient in 2012, yet that was when he was at his best. His only hits in 2013 came when he was ahead in the count, his average 0-2 was around .215. In 2012 it was .265 roughly. He needs to change something SSC. You're wrong.
