Is The SEC Overrated This Year???

Featured Replies

After seeing the beating Florida State has given Clemson, who was competitive with Georgia, as well as the upsets in the SEC today, is the SEC in a down year?

Alabama is still Alabama until someone beats them, but what happens if they lose to a LSU or in the SEC Championship game?

At the top, yep. The conference may be a bit more balanced and have better depth than the past several years, so it all depends on your perspective. But they don't have the top flight like they have recently.

I think the conference is balancing out but the SEC usually plays tough against it's own competition.

I do think Alabama is on a completely different level but the other teams are not unbeatable as they used to seem to be, the middle teams are starting to balance and give more competition.

A down year by SEC standards but still the toughest conference in football.

Alabama, Mizzou and Auburn are all unbeaten. Maybe Georgia, LSU, Florida and South Carolina were overrated, but they are still solid football teams. Throw in A&M and Ole Miss and think that Tennessee, Miss St. and Vandy are considered our bottom and I don't know that the SEC is overrated. It is still the best conference in college football, IMO. Maybe we are seeing a bit of a shift this year at the top with some teams that had low profiles to start the year.

Auburn lost to LSU.

Mizzou might have been the luckiest team so far. They played some middling teams out of conference then got Georgia after the injuries started to implode them, then likewise with Florida. But they have been better than most thought.

I think it's better than ever. I haven't seen this much parity in the conference ever. Bama is the only team that is head and shoulders above everyone else and they will still win the national championship.

The SEC is loaded. They are just finally beating each other up instead of 2 teams beating everyone.

Put me in the camp that isn't sold on Alabama being the supreme being that everyone makes them out to be.

It's not like the top teams are losing to the bottom feeders. It's the good teams beating up on good teams. Today was one of the best single days of football games in SEC history.

Alabama doesn't seem like a team that's built to play from behind, which could be a huge problem with Oregon. Granted, you have to be really, really good to score on them, but I can see that being something that hurts them.

Yesterday, a top team (South Carolina) lost to a bottom feeder (Tennessee). Also, Georgia losing to Vandy represented a ranked team losing to a middling team.

If Alabama had been playing FSU last night, I think there would be a whole lot more talk about the SEC being down this morning.

True, but Tennessee almost knocked off UGA and they have some great talent on that roster still. Also Vandy played a UGA team who is one more injury away from playing one of their managers.

Like PP said they are beating each other...I think the fact that Tennessee is starting to look like "Tennessee" again is great for the SEC. Vandy has been a solid team for the last couple of seasons and at home can play with just about anyone. Georgia, LSU, Texas A&M are not bad teams...it's just the middle of the conference is much better this season. On a given day LSU, Georgia, Texas A&M could still beat any team in the country. Ole Miss, Auburn and Missou are all much better than expected.

SEC weaker? Crazy talk, if anything it's tougher this year than it's been in years.

I suppose we'll see if the SEC is overrated after the bowl games are done. I have a feeling the SEC will fare very well in them.

Agree. The SEC is only less dominant this year when compared with the SEC of old if anything.

Will be fun to come back to this thread after all of the bowl games are over.
