Will Highlands & Covington Catholic continue to play in the future?

Featured Replies

As an outsider to this issue and really area, I was shocked to see this could be a posibility! Why to you drop tour biggest, closest rival?

Pissed off admin guys shouldn't shut down one of the better rivalries in the state - should they? Am I off base?

Considering the one sided margin of victories over the last 10 yrs I guess it might be a rivalry that has come to an end...

Most of those games were blowouts but there is a handful that were decided by a td or less, but still a loss is a loss no matter how one slices it and my guess is CovCath has just had about enough of Highlands.

I got a feeling Dale is going to be looking for a heavy weight to replace them...who's it going to be?

I don't know why CCH would ever end this rivalry.

It is not a rivalry now, beyond the fact that the winner is District champs. 3 wins in 17 seasons isn't a true rivalry. Once district play is eliminated, along w potential playoff games, there is no rivalry. Now, before 1998, it USED to be a gre rivalry, but it is just living in the past.

Doesn't seem to be a factor now. The gate at a HHS / CHH JV game is equal to what some schools get for the varsity contests. Cancelling JV games has financial impact. FTJFL was set to make some money on concessions, HABA was set to sell spirit wear.

From what I hear they arent hurting for money...... just saying.:sssh:

Lou. X or Trinity. JMO. HHS is looking for bigger fish to fry, other than CCH. HHS plays one GCL South team per year and I think that is enough for now.

Scott Co would seem to be a natural addition. If Scott Co wants to continue what it has going, it needs to up it's schedule and better prepare them for the playoffs. How about SKenton. another program on the rise needing to beef up it's schedule. I'd think either of those would be solid matchups without the long drive.

Unfortunately no NKY teams want to face the challenge of HHS. Campbell is the exception. The norm for HHS will be the schedule like this year, teams from all over instead of their own backyard.

Thu played Scott Cty last year and beat them pretty handedly if I remember right. It would be a great addition for years to come though. I wish they'd schedule teams like Anderson or Winton Woods from Ohio. Those would be very fun matchups.

Try telling that to a player, no matter the team.

This now seems inevitable and I have been saying for sometime now that next yr Highlands and T will begin a new series of games.

Heck it almost happened this yr, had it not been the 1o wk it would have happened. :thumb:

Not disputing anything you are saying other than it is a eye-popping 4 wins, not 3.

Mark the date for the trivia gurus, 9-28-13 may be the answer to some good trivia 10 to 20 yrs down the road.

Some other numbers that might come in handy

Well, the Bengals hated the Steelers for 20 years as well, doesn't mean that anyone outside of Cincinnati took it as a serious rivalry.

Here is the problem. Highlands has no natural rivalry. They are trying to shoe horn CovCath into that role, because every great team needs a foil. However, Highlands is so far beyond NKY that it is really amusing. They are not, however, at the level to challenge the GCL consistently, in regards to playing more than one member a year. They are quickly getting there, but even then, they aren't competing w/ those teams for state championships. LexCath has fallen off of a cliff as has Boyle. So, there's nobody to challenge them that is like in size, and definitely nobody here in Boone, Kenton, or Campbell Counties.

Perhaps by the time your son is playing for the Birds they will be a member of the GCL...:thumb:

Sons....Plural!

If any of the 6A teams in NKY are serious about contending with Trinity/St.X/Male etc on a consistent basis then they ought to be knocking on Highlands door when the re-districting happens. Playing teams better than you seems to work fairly well when schools in the smaller classes schedule bigger and better schools.

If I were SK, Ryle, Dixie, Campbell, Boone, I would rather know what I have earlier in the year than when I get in the playoffs with the Louisville schools later.

Currently Campbell is the only 6A school in NKY willing to play Highlands
