Bellevue has seen many young professionals move into their City as well and there are not as many families with children. There are young couples and single folks and many have moved in from outside the area. Its a very reasonably priced community with a great business district. JMO

I agree with everything you said. My son and his wife came close to buying a home in Bellevue. The area is on the rebound. In Covington, one can see a similar pattern. Couples like the fact that they can buy a lot of house for the money, but when kids arrive, it's off to the burbs.

Downfall of Ludlow, Dayton, Bellevue..........Many have moved their families to "greener pastures".

I'm surprised Ludlow hasn't seen a little bump with all of the new condos / brownstones down there. Although I assume CovCath catches a lot more of those kids.

Actually, I think Dixie may be getting more of the Ludlow kids than Cov Cath. I was told some of the key players for this year's Dixie team are Ludlow kids.

I would not include Bellevue in the same comparison as Ludlow and Dayton. Bellevue has been a pretty consistent top ten-fifteen team in 1A and they are this year too.

IMO, those small river towns just do not have the kids anymore. If I look on the KHSAA website, Bellevue has 27 kids on the roster; Dayton has 27; Ludlow reads as having 28. Their A counterpart Beechwood has 54. Also, I wonder about the community involvement in those communities.

I believe that community involvement plays a bigger role than many think. I went to the game at Dayton when they played Pendleton County and there was not many there; 200 would be a big estimate including younger kids, high school students, and adults there to watch both teams. Another example involves the Dayton/Bellevue game last year played at Bellevue, which had a similar amount. I can remember back when Davis Field used to be filled all over regardless of who they played and how good or bad they were. Simply put, the support is just not there any more.

Lawnboy is spot on with his point about MANY people that have left the area too.

Boy, growing up I sure remember how tough those schools were. At the time Ludlow was Beechwoods biggest rival.

I was going to say the same thing, I remember how big of a rivalry Beechwood and Ludlow and Beechwood and Bellevue were. Always great games (as well as some pretty good fights on and off the field) then Beechwood put their program into the next gear when Yeagle came along and it's never been the same since.

I would have lost big money if I was betting on whether or not Beechwood had a soccer team. Now that you say that, it registers I've never heard of them having one, but I would have lost that bet.

They actually had 1 in 82 and 83, the only 2 years I know they had one, it was actually only 1 Varsity Soccer team so girls could actually play on it, we had one girl play on the team and if anyone is familiar with the Burns family from Beecwhood, it was one of the Burns' that was the only girl on the team. Had several football players play on the Soccer team those 2 years ( Geno Terry, myself, Ted Quinlan, Jeff Seaman etc.) though because it took place after Football season, Soccer back then in High School was a spring sport but it still interfered with both sports and baseball and basketball so that was the only 2 years they had the team.

In 1982, Ludlow had a great team. I believe Beechwood beat them (and the Capel twins) with a barefooted fieldgoal by Ted Quinlan at the end of regulation to send the tigers into the playoffs for the first time since 1978. That was the start of the turnaround that put Beechwood in the Playoffs for all but 1 of the next 30 years. Beechwood went on to lose in the Semi-Finals to Cumberland.

Yeagle definitely put it in Over-drive, but Beechwood definitely had it in high gear in the eighties under Bernie Barre.

Hazey Memory, but I believe most of the facts are correct :)

Same w/ the East Side of Newport. Problem for the public schools is that they will send their children to Newport Catholic, or look for houses in Ft. Thomas once their children get close to school age. We all know the problems that Newport Independent has had with the state. That perception, IMO, spreads over to Bellevue and Dayton, whether fair or unfair. A lot of that has to do with the fact that many of the established families, as LB said, have had their children grow and move to other parts of NKY. They don't have as much community influence. Add to that the amount of families that rent and move from their neighborhoods each year, and you don't get a solid rooted base that is vested in community interest. The city of Bellevue has done a tremendous amount of work in getting businesses to invest, and get more professionals into the area. However, you need to get the blue collar folks to stay there more than you need a few professionals to move in. You need more families invested in Bellevue, Dayton, and Ludlow high schools. W/ how small the populations are, they may never be consistent threats to Beechwood. They can, however, be bigger threats to Raceland and the other district they face every year in the playoffs.

Bellevue is no Highlands, but they are no doormat either. They are ranked just outside or in some polls of the top10 in class A. Go Tigers!!!!!!

I agree. Bellevue has had a couple down years in the past ten but for most of the past ten years they have been been a top tier 1A program.

Your memory serves you right. Ted Quinlan was my best friend and actually stayed with my family when he needed some help in the late 90's - 2000's

He was a barefoot kicker and I remember that game very well. It is sad that I must pass this news on, Ted passed away from cancer in August, we just buried him the week before football season started this year. The Guru was also a teammate of Ted's.

One thing I would like to see is Bellevue fans/community/alumni stick with the team through everything. Unfortunately when the team is not expected to do well, they simply don't show up. When the team is doing well, they come out of the woodwork and are all over the field for the Beechwood /Bellevue game. While they can be a bit harsh standing behind the visitor sidelines, I at least give them credit for being there. They just need to do that more regularly and rebuild the Boosters and get the machine rolling.

Bellevue always comes up with some good talent in Football and Baseball, they just need chain some years together in order to build a program. They scare me almost every year we play them. Seems like they always play Beechwood well above expectations.
