Mustang
I realize that I am still lost in the sixties and have become rebellious and hateful when it comes to such things as professional sports, health care costs, and the value of the dollar, BUT, in my opion things are getting totally out of hand, and taking very dangerous steps to creating an inflationary environment that will become the norm for the present and future generations. I'm also sure this is not breaking news. As I left River Downs on Saturday afternoon I noticed "Fireworks Parking" signs in both the River Downs and Coney Island parking lots - $30. It seems that Coney Island was having a fireworks event, and obviously the good folks who make these kind of decisions decided to price gouge the party-goers. My further shock was that folks were lined up to pay the price and fill the lots. To me, there has never been a fireworks show devised that I would pay $30 to see, let alone to park my car to see. I guess my question is when are Reds Fans, Bengals fans, Concert goers, and the general public going to say NO!!!??? We've had enough!!! While we all complain about it, people shell out $40 or more to go see the Reds, and pay $9 for a beer, or $70 to see the Bengals and $40 to park their cars. Even my own sport of choice, horse racing (Free parking/Free admission), is becoming cost prohibitive. $7.50 for a Racing Form is becoming the going rate, and $2.75 for a pop, with no free-refills and $3.75 for a bowl of soup puts you deep in the hole before you even make your first bet. I'm often glad that I'm 66 and not 16 and wonder just what kind of world our kids and their kids are going to grow up in. Hopefully, it will be a rebellious one, a generation who will refuse to be herded as sheep and will stand up and take back their environment. But I'm not betting on that happening any time soon. Lawnboy13
I'm with you Stang, no way I'm droppin' $30 to park anywhere. and the prices for drinks at sporting events.....CRAZY. I'd go thirsty before I'd spend that kind of coin for a drink. BTW, $30 bucks would be well worth it to watch the fireworks from the "Hill". :ylsuper: :lol2:
Mustang
BTW, $30 bucks would be well worth it to watch the fireworks from the "Hill". :ylsuper: :lol2: This wasn't "The FIreworks" - this was some fireworks show taking place at Coney Island last night (Sept. 21st). At least Fireworks on "The Hill" is an event and a fund-raiser. This was out and out price-gouging.
OlDog75
Stang, I could be wrong but I thought I saw a person on early morning news being interviewed about some sort of fund raiser at Old Coney. The $30 was for park admission, rides and parking per car load. Sorry, cannot remember the name of the group the person was representing in the interview. I4C
If it was a fundraiser, then fine. If not, ridiculous. But I agree with you Mustang getting way out of hand. I went to watch my daughter play volleyball in the cake classic and they were charging $8 to get in. I'm going to have to get a 2nd job to go watch my kids play sports. The outrageous prices at professional sporting events has trickled down to college and high school.

Plato
Supply and demand. As long as the demand is there and willing to pay, nothing will change. Prices will continue to increase until enough folks quit paying...
Run To State
Supply and demand. As long as the demand is there and willing to pay, nothing will change. Prices will continue to increase until enough folks quit paying...Bingo! I just had this conversation with my wife last night. We need to get her a new phone, we have Verizon. We don't need or want a smart phone and data plan. You can't get a free basic phone with your 2 year contract anymore, at least that's what we were told at the Verizon store. We have to pay at least $100 and get a $50 dollar rebate. The guy tried to talk us into a free smart phone. I said "then I'd have to pay at least $30 for a data plan that isn't even unlimited and on top of that if I wanted one as well it would cost me an additional $30 a month". I told him my internet at home is 20 meg service that I pay one price for and can connect a ton of devices to. I asked him "why would I want to pay twice as much for two phone data plans?" He just said "that's what everybody does now". I told him if people would say no, it would be a lot more affordable, but by God, they just have to have it at any cost. It's just insane to me. Clyde
Supply and demand. As long as the demand is there and willing to pay, nothing will change. Prices will continue to increase until enough folks quit paying... Been saying it for years. People always complain about players' salaries YET they still tune in which generates the revenue to pay those salaries. We're ultimately in control. We just like it too much. Found out what Mrs. S has. It's a LG Extravert, no data plan, unlimited voice and text. Nice little phone.

I4C
Was the $8 to view multiple matches? Played one game on Friday and cost $8, played several on Saturday and was $8. Me, wife and 3 kids $40 to see one game on Friday and $40 on Saturday. Mix in concession money spent and its well over $100.
5 STAR
Neither am I. I've got a cheapo flip-phone with NO data plan. My phone is a flip phone Virgin Mobile. I pay 20 dollars every 3 months with no contract. It is great for people that don't talk much.
