Brush with Fame

Featured Replies

I always thought it was interesting to hear about peoples brush with fame. I've had several and would like to hear others.

I will start.

Before i got married and lived in SC after my military days I was into acting and got a couple small parts in some movies. In some movies I got to interact and get to know some actors.

1. Movie with Pam Dauber (who I got to hug in the movie) Michael Nori (Flashdance) Reginald VelJohnson (went to see Die Hard with him when it came out in theatres) Peter Berg (Actor, Director...director and producer of Friday Night Lights) Denzel Washington and Morgan Freeman and Mathew Broderick (was an extra in Glory) Julia Roberts (in her first movie...stupid movie called Satisfaction and later changed to Girls of Summer)

When I was in High School my sister went out with a Baseball player Mario Ramirez (she started dating him when he was in the minors and roomed with Mookie Wilson, Mookie and MMario both made it to the big leagues togethr for the Mets)

My mom's cousin is Katie Sweet, she was a childhood actress discovered by Alfred Hitchcock and was in the Birds among many tv shows such as Bonanza, My Favorite Martian and others.

Clyde would only count if he gave a like.

Ran into and talked to Rob Van Winkle at Disney Animal Kingdom Resort a couple of times on vacation a few years ago. First time I was in line getting something to drink and some Ice and resisted the temptation of an "Ice Ice Baby" reference...was a pretty cool guy. Saw Michael Chiklis on the same trip and he seemed like a butt.

Played on High School Tennis team with Scott Cooper the writer and director of Crazy Heart (Jeff Bridges Oscar Win) and Out of the Furnace (w/Christian Bale) coming out soon. I think maybe he was an 8th grader on the team.

Hmmm. Probably either my stint on the Mickey Mouse Club or maybe the time I was in this "boy band". :D

I ate breakfast with Brett Favre's parents on my honeymoon. Real nice down to earth people. Irv (Brett's father) asked me more about my life in athletics than him talking about Brett.

Nothing too special.

I had dinner one evening with former Michigan football coach Lloyd Carr.

Got to go backstage after a broadway musical to meet a somewhat known actress, Anita Gillette.

My aunt is also good friends with Nancy Brown so I once went over to the Brown's house for a few hours. Really nice lady and she gave me an undersized Bengal t-shirt.

It was probably a misprint also. :lol2:

Jumper, after meeting you I would have "bet the house" that you never played tennis.

While working at 55 'KRC back in the early 90's, was assigned to cover a story when Jon Voight was in town to present some "Teacher of the Year" award to one of the local Cincinnati teachers. Got my nat. sound from the speech/presentation like everybody else, but evidently was the only reporter that asked his people about doing some follow up questions with Jon afterwards. Was told "yes", and figured we'd end up over to the side afterwards to conduct the interview.

However, when the presentation was all over, he suggested we do the interview in his hotel room where it was quieter. So, who was I to say no. Went and did the interview, and when it was done, filed my story, and headed back to the station to cut up the tape. When I got back, was in the news room when the news director got a phone call. The person asked who it was, and they said it was Jon Voight on the phone. Immediately got a lump in my throat, figuring I must have done something wrong. Instead, Jon had called to follow up and say what a pleasant and insightful interview we had had, and wanted to let my superiors know that.

I played in a pickup game with Roderick Rhodes, Walter McCarty, Tony Delk, Jared Prickett and Wayne Turner. I stole the ball from Wayne Turner. He sucks. :D

I was in New Orleans in 93 when the Final Four was there. The College 3 Point Shootout and Dunk Contest was at Tulane and me and 2 of my friends were hanging out outside of the arena when Clem Haskins and his wife walked up. Clem knew my parents when he was at WKU and he recognized me and we had normal small talk for a second. He then asked if we were going in and I said no, we're broke college students. He laughed and told us to come with him and he got us in. Awesome moment for me that night.

I beat up Mike Tyson in a street fight. He was running that lip. Knocked him out cold. Left hook. He didn't want none.

That reminds me, I'm sure some folks here will know this person. A classmate of mine growing up is also a Broadway Actress and had the female lead on Broadway in The Producers and got to go back stage with her before and after one of her performances when I was in New York and she invited me to come back with my kids the next day and she took tthem backtage and onstage for pics etc. Angie Schworer.

Final 4 in Rupp Arena - 1985. Saturday session. Took a pee next to Jim Boeheim. (nudged out my 2nd place finisher...shook Jimmy Carter's hand in 1980).

I wonder why...:lol2:

Was actually Co-Capt and only lost in doubles twice and 3 or 4 times my senior season...
