Trinity's Helmet Logo

Featured Replies

There are some traditions that will never change. If someone tried, the old grads would revolt. The first is "Trinity Forever" at the end of the pregame prayer. The second is that logo. Hellbird may see a big pile of poop, but in a way, that might be appropriate. It would be the big pile of poop in the other teams pants when they step on the field and see that helmet emblem accross the field.

I like what the logo stands for and represents but I am not big on the design. The T looks like a mushroom and I couldn't see the shamrock. No clue where the hand is.

It's nothing against the idea, I love the idea and what the logo is supposed to mean. But the picture itself doesn't make sense. I still can't see it even after now knowing what it si supposed to be a picture of.

Maybe a new drawing that is more clear of what it is supposed to be would be much better.

this should explain it better than I could...

ECHO - Trinity High School - For 40 years a symbol of excellence

FWIW, fitting it was designed in the 70's... that rounded T looks like what you would see eating at a Mellow Mushroom Pizza and the hand of God must have been the by -product of an Acid trip.

I still like it though,, but it screams "70's" design when you really look at it.

Remember, its designer was an art (abstract-?) teacher, Vince Semary who, incidentally, played on UK's Thin Thirty under Charlie Bradshaw in the early '60s. I believe he now owns an art studio in Houston, TX (unless he has retired since I last spoke with him).

I think that is awesome, but the fact being the meaning and what you see when you frist look at it are 2 different things. It looks too busy plus the fact you really can't make out what it is supposed to be unless you are told what it is.

I get the feeling that all those involved are only concerned with what it means to the Trinity family, past and present, and they don't care about whether or not outsiders "get it". They probably would even get a kick out of the detractors.

In short, they have chosen substance over style.

My son still has his helmet decal. He hasn't played in....what...9 or 10 years? He had it on his car window until he got a new car, and very carefully removed it and has taken great pains to preserve it. It obviously means a great deal to him as a former player.

That is a great testament to what that decal means to the players at Trinity. Thanks for posting that rockmom.

I was only commenting because this thread was about helmet logo's and when you don't know what it stands for and are just looking at it from an outsider it is very confusing what the picture is supposed to be.

That was obvious :thumb:

I like all of that and I like having your own logo. I like everything about their logo except I had no clue that was a hand and can still barely see that is what it is after reading what it is. Nitpicky perhaps by me.
This was designed in the 60s :isurrender: The coach who designed it now resides in Texas and runs an art gallery. I was fortunate enough to interview Coach Semary. There is a page devoted to the logo in the Trinity home football programs.

A former head coach at Trinity ordered two hundred sets of Power Ts (Tennessee T) without authorization and he had to hustle them elsewhere. The AD said the Alumni would "string him up" if the logo was changed.

Trinity won their first state football title soon after this logo was adopted. The description was not "made public" until the late 70s. It was used on some spirit buttons sold by the student council. Prior to this logo, Trinity wore plain white helmets or helmets with a small t or cross on them. The words have become part of the Trinity experience. When Coach Kennedy went to Oldham County, they used a slightly different variation of this logo while he was there.

Here is what I wrote in June 2007 for inclusion in the Trinityfootball program:

Jim Kennedy was named head coach at Trinity in 1966. After the season, the coaching staff made an assessment of the issues that faced the team. Coach Kennedy enlisted the help of assistant coach Vince Semary in creating a logo to be used on the Shamrock helmets. Coach Kennedy identified PRIDE, DISCIPLINE, LOYALTY, and ACHIEVEMENT as points of emphasis required for the success of the program. The Trinity headgear emblem chosen was first used in 1967. “We needed a symbol to instill all those qualities within the squad,” stated Coach Kennedy. “We needed this emblem to appear as each individual team member holding up the letter ‘T’ to represent Trinity High School.” Coach Semary added, ”The ‘T’is encircled by the qualities we were trying to develop among the young men. Jim Kennedy established the excellence the Trinity program stands for to this day.” Close inspection of the insignia revealed a hand holding a “T” inside a shamrock surrounded by a ring of desired traits.

Coach Kennedy added,” The logo gave the coaches and players a constant reference point regarding our duty and honor to represent Trinity to the very best of our being.” For more than forty years, the Trinity Shamrocks have strived to meet the expectations represented by this icon.
