Few Thoughts on Stoops after Game 1

Does anyone think the play calling was different between QB's?

Not sure. Was the playcalling different or did Smith make different decisions than Whitlow with the ball?

Yes. When Smith came in it was in all-pass mode.

For the record, no thread on BGP is a joke or ridiculous. It's a melting pot of opinions and with all of the hype and hoopla about AirRaid and StoopsTroops and all of that crap any thread about Stoops and UK football after getting murdered by the Hilltoppers is fair game IMO.

I think that UK went into this game thinking they could move the ball on the ground against Western, so that is one reason why they didn't show as much air raid offense. Another reason being the lack of experienced playmakers at the WR position..

The stats don't really show that UK got "murdered".

UK gained 6.8 yds per rushing attempt compared to WKU's 5.3.

UK gained 11.3 yds per catch compared to WKU's 10.0.

UK gained 7.0 yds per play and WKU gained 6.5.

UK more than double WKU's return yardage with one less return.

WKU had 487 total yards to UK's 419.

The biggest stat imo was that UK scored TD's on 50% of their trips to the red zone while WKU scored TD's on 83% of their's.

I know they didn't get murdered. That was me having some fun there. :D

While I don't think the thread is silly at all, I disagree that Stoops needed a "fall guy". That just makes no sense to me that someone would throwa kid under the bus. You give the kid an opportunity. We have no idea as to what the decision to start Whitlow in the 1st place was. But I have to believe he thought Whitlow gave hime the best chance to win. It became pretty obvious to win the game they had to throw and Smith is the better of the two at that. There is more to QB ing than throwing in the college game today, but it is definitely a necessity when you get behind by two scores. The play calling had to change due to the score and time left. Bottom line this team is just not very good.

I dont disagree with what you are saying. I guess the better question should be How did Whitlow beat out Smith? Because it took Whitlow several months to win the job and 1 1/2 hours to lose it.

I think we will see both guys...As mentioned earlier Stoops said that he feels that Smith gives them the best chance to win this week. I read that as we could see Whitlow back in there at some point.

Stoops has said Whitlow will play this week. I am assuming at QB. I prefer WR.

Maybe a little of both.

Do not know what his hands are like, but I think Randall Cobb. Surely you can teach an athlete to catch.

Braylon Edwards coaches would beg to differ.

Steve Spurrier must be a terrible coach then. He has no problem benching a QB if they aren't getting it done.

Kentucky will continue to run the ball more than some perceive to be "Air-raid" because the perception of it is wrong. The 32 rushing attempts by U.K. was 12th out of 12 teams in the SEC last week.

Whitlow beat out Smith because his running ability gives a dimension that Smith does not have.........only problem was he was running against UK's defense which apparently is a lot weaker than first thought!!
