I think this is a fair question. Just 6a? I believe it was just a year ago that the birds took it to SC pretty good! If I remember correctly, they only had 1 first down I'm the first half on a broken play. I know "that's last year!" But not long enough ago to not warrant the question "just 6a?"

They played T very tough in the playoffs last season (if that counts for anything).

"Big 4" to me when I think of Kentucky football:

1. Trinity

2. Highlands

3. St. Xavier

4. Boyle County

 

 

 

Soon to be on the list if they keep going at the pace they are going at:

1. Central

2. Bowling Green

 

 

Always a tough out:

1. Bell County

2. Belfry

3. Mayfield

 

 

Ask me 3-4 years ago and Lexington Catholic & maybe Danville would have been on there.

 

Those are the teams that are/have been the cream of the crop for their classification and scale, IMO.

I don't think they should but I am taking our members pulse.

Scott Co is good but when I think of a question like that I think of the top 3 teams in the state and SC isn't one I'd think of in that list.

When I think of big 3 I think of large power schools. For sure T and X but I don't know about that 3rd right now. Highlands is a nice program for small schools.

You have to admit, they had a nice run from the Chuck Smith, Tamme, Dawson, etc. (putting KY kids in the NFL). They won 5 straight championships from 1999-2003. Went back to back in 2009 & 2010. As the years have went on, they've increased the class that they play in.

 

That's what I consider a program.

 

I'll admit that losing to Lex Cath on the road in the Round of 8 in both the 2012 and 2011 seasons means that Boyle County only seems less dominant when compared to the Boyle County of old or maybe 5 more teams in Kentucky. I just think we're really splitting hairs if you can't include them in the conversation for one of the top 10 programs in Kentucky because they've fell out of the playoffs to some good Lexington Catholic squads in a huge rivalry game on the road two years running.

 

That isn't an indictment stating they've been in the same class as Highlands in that same 2-3 year time frame because frankly, they haven't, but I'll still give them credit nonetheless. What programs outside of Trinity and Highlands have the kind of recent tradition that they do?

 

In 2003, they put the mighty Bluebirds DOWN in the championship game, 44-10. No contest.

 

I know it's ten years ago, and that things have changed since then, but they still have enough credit left for me to give them the benefit of the doubt.
