Cable vs Direct TV....What would BGP's use and why?

Featured Replies

Directv, not even close to me. Hardly ever goes out and never for extended periods. Rain issue much better that five years ago. Better tech.

Had dish for 5 years. Then when the Big Ten Network came out, Dish didn't have it. Switched to DTV because they did. I would take Dish hands down over DTV. I called DTV at least once a month for the two years I had them because of issues. I switched back to Dish as soon as my two years was up. I've never had an issue with Dish.

In the past three years, more than 53,000 customers have complained to the Better Business Bureau about satellite TV providers, with 39,000 of those complaints filed against DirecTV and 13,000 filed against Dish Network. Many complaints stem from fees and terms outlined in the customer agreement and BBB recommends that TV viewers planning to make the switch to satellite should read the fine print closely

But how many more customers does DTV have over Dish?

Direct has the better customer service, though Dish has improved. What I like about Dish is the price. I've haggled with Direct people many times in the past, never to any avail. Dish has been easier to work with, for me at least, when it comes to negotiation.

However, I do think Direct is the better product. They have all the ESPN's in HD & Dish does not (ESPNU & ESPNews are in SD). There are a handful of other non-sports channels that Direct has in HD & Dish does not. The ESPN's are the only ones that matter to me.

Of course, when we most recently left Direct, after they'd declined to meet my requests, they called me just a couple of days after we dropped them. They then offered me everything Dish was currently providing. I told them they had their chance & that I'd be back in touch with them in two years.

I hate that both satellite companies treat new customers better than existing customers.

18 milllion DTV - 14 million Dish

Based on those numbers, and the total number of subscribers, Dish Network had a higher percentage of complaints. However, both numbers are extremely small.

.2624% of DirecTV customers complain. (20.2 million US customers)

.2783% of Dish Network customers complain. (14.014 million customers)

The above #'s are based off their 2nd quarter numbers.

Based on the article I get

39,000/18,000,000 = .2167% DTV

vs

13,000/14,000,000 = .0929% Dish

I used the wrong complaint numbers. I used 53k for DTV and 39k for DN, and the subscriber numbers came from their websites. Either way, the complaint rate is extremely small.

Sounds like we need a BGP buyer's cartel. Give us all a great deal or we take our business down the internet highway.

I had Direct TV for several years and now have Cable. I have Cable for two primary reasons, 1) better faster internet through cable company 2) hate losing signal every time it rains hard.

This!

I can count on 1 hand the amount of times I lost service due to weather in the last 2 yrs. Only 1 was over 20 minutes.

That is the biggest draw back and where cable is actually better than Satelite and that is how easy it is to lose signal during storms with satelite. Doesn't matter what ccompany you have you will aalways lose signal with any satelite company.

I have D-TV and I love it. Only draw back is after your 24 month contact is up it's kinda pricey.

No it's not. They want you to re-sign so you can get what you want.

Direct TV is better and it isn't even close, for me. I actually lost signal more with cable than I have with Direct TV, not to mention losing channels over ridiculous disputes between cable providers and networks. I have been a customer for around 10 years and between the NFL Sunday Ticket and the quality customer service I have received, I recommend Direct TV whole-heartedly and I will never go back to cable (barring something unforeseen).

Yeah it was.
