August 23, 201313 yr I know this was brought up as a joke a few ago. But it looks like up here in Michigan it is an issue they are seriously looking at. Raising Highway speeds to 80mph to limit some cities and their speed traps. Lawmakers look at raising speed limits to 80 mph in Michigan | The Detroit News
August 23, 201313 yr "Give an inch, take a mile" ... You could raise the limit to 100 and people will go 110. I must be a real wimp because I travel the speed limit and appear to be a minority on the expressways. People are constantly zipping by me, tailgaiting me, switching lanes and jumping back in front of me only to be out of my sight in a flash. The non-verbal attitude of most cars around me express to me that I'm in the way and to "get off the road you big law abider, rules are for wimps". Honestly, probably one in thousands upon thousands are ever ticketed, and I still worry that I'm an easy target for the police if I'm over by 5 mph because they wouldn't have any problem catching up to me.

You're not alone. An 80 yr old grandma on a scooter once passed me and your boy Wehry. For the record I was in the passenger's seat.
August 23, 201313 yr Are there that many Interstate Speed Traps? Most targeted enforcement areas that I have seen are off of the interstates and on county roads and city streets. Are they looking to raise the speed limit on Interstates only or all streets and roads? BTW I was just ahead of my time with that other thread...it wasn't a joke!

That's because the good nuns of St. Al's taught us honest kids to honor, respect, and do right by the law. Again, the minority, as there were only 17 of us in our 8th grade graduating class. Then we were set free to compete with the rest of the world. Boy did we get a rude awakening. :lol2:

I drive 75 about once a month from Detroit area down to NKY. I-75 in Ohio is one big speed trap. Michigan has it with some of the smaller towns but inside the Major metro area not so much.

August 23, 201313 yr Author For the record I really don't care about speed limits. I just found it funny when I saw it because of the thread from a few weeks. My only problem is downtown Dayton on 75 being 45mph when I head back to KY.
August 26, 201313 yr I will admit that I was going 90 mph today on I-75. I'm in favor of increasing the speed limit to 80. I usually cruise at 78 anyways.

Curious, so if they raised them to 80...and you already usually cruise at 78 right now anyway...would you find yourself going the same speed? Or would you, as BBFan stated, suddenly find your new "norm" needed to be at 88 or so?

Just stay out of the fast lane and you will be just fine and should have nothing to worry about.
August 26, 201313 yr I think 70 is the max most these fools on the road can navigate. Too many bad drives out there to be driving at those high speeds. Ohio should be lowered if anything.
August 26, 201313 yr Went to Dallas this summer. I30 from Texarkana pretty much to Dallas is 75. I was driving probably 82 or 83 and that is about as fast as I wanted to go. Of course the road wasn't in the best shape and traffic was pretty heavy.
