I do think that Beechwood and Highlands have an "advantage", but it is an advantage that they have created for themselves. So I doubt you can call it "unfair". As for the FTEF paying for the Scoreboard. You can justify almost anything legally and I do see a benefit to the the students of highlands with the new Scoreboard. Like OSD said, it's just not a good idea to create any sort of appearance of something wrong. You should keep a very clear line between Education and Athletic Funds.

 

I'm also not sure what the 100,000 per year discussion does to the Title 9 requirements. I know I have heard about Beechwood struggling to maintain this balance and there are State Title 9 investigators that show up at schools regularly looking for the data to prove that a school is compliant. My guess is that this article is going to have the investigators at Beechwood and Highlands asking questions.

 

As to the bolded, I can tell you from first hand experience and involvement that the school administrators are very, very focused on the Title IX issue and the impact that the outside funds have on Title IX compliance. If the KHSAA investigators do show up asking questions, I say great for them. They should be asking questions; not just of Highlands but of every school. I don't have a daughter but I've seen the many benefits of Title IX. So I'm a big proponent of the KHSAA making sure that all the schools are in compliance. But I'm not the least bit worried about their questions if they do show up and start asking them.

As to the BOLDED above, remember that the same reporter could probably write a story about the massive fundraising that was done for the soccer program at HHS. If you haven't seen that facility, you really should. Also, from a Title IX standpoint, I would assume all of those $ are, at least, neutral since both boys and girls soccer play there.

I don't believe any rational Birds fan took my post as a shot by me at the program. No history to support that. You would have to be a fool to look at the program in any way other than one comprised of respect.

I didn't take it that way at all. My mad was directed more at the paper, and that was only because I figured it would set off a firestorm of Bird bashing. To my surprise, almost all of the reaction here has been positive.

As I'm sure you know, paranoia would only be indicated when there is no reason to believe something will occur. But since the reactions I described are as much a tradition of the HHS Haters Club as winning is for the team, paranoia "ain't on the table."

They are missing the boat not doing a movie night on non-game nights. I said it before, they could fundraise a ton by doing a movie once a week and having students/parents work it. The cool thing about the new position for the scoreboard is that I can see it perfectly now. Where it was, I had to look around the telephone pole or through a hundred people standing next to me. Now it's just a turn of the head away. In fact, I watched some of the short yardage plays at the far end of the field that way. Wish they could do more replays though. Maybe that will happen later on.

 

And as for my being kind of chippy lately, maybe it's partly because I'm an worn down, almost 50-yr-old college student trying to get settled into a new semester -- and not getting much help from a professor who has yet to show up for our online class, two weeks into the calendar. And that's only the half of it. :ohbrother: Or maybe it's just that time of the month. :down:

BF, you would be proud to know that the position of the new scoreboard was not an easy decision and there were probably 6 position moves from Monday to Tues and finally the concrete was too dry to move it.

 

Biggest factor was to satisfy all patrons the best as possible, this included the view from the communications room in the HS for school days, the general stadium seating, both teams viewpoints, the foundation club, handicap viewing area, concession workers and the view from the 915

 

That board is in the very best possible spot to satisfy all imo. :thumb:
