I like it being the last game of the season. I do not like the game slate it is up against.

Also, big up to the SEC for having the 2014 schedule out already.

 

I think Louisville has dates for the early games against FIU and Marshall and no others... and heck, if I had to guess, I think Louisville's going to buy out of that Marshall game to get another home game since we picked up that game at Notre Dame.

 

Sounds like I'll have to root for UofL football for the first time in my life. First time for everything I guess.

The late-season shift will increase to four the number of ACC vs. SEC intrastate rivalry matchups on the season's final weekend, joining Florida State-Florida, Georgia Tech-Georgia and Clemson-South Carolina, which are also played on the closing weekend.

 

That may make the game something marketable as some sort of ACC/SEC battle type thing. Especially with the quality that FSU and Clemson are capable of putting on the field.

 

Also from Louisville's press release:

 

"I have been a huge proponent that the game should be played as the first game every year," said UofL Vice-President/Director of Athletics Tom Jurich. "I'm disappointed that it will not be our opening game in the future, but most importantly, we will continue to play the game. We'll support the move at the request of both conferences and we are very excited about our future in the ACC. I'm sure that fans across the Commonwealth will be pleased to see the series continue."

 

I might be reading too much between the lines here, but Jurich makes it sound like UK was the one that wanted it moved and made it a condition of continuing the series. Also makes Deuce's comment seem pretty accurate.

I love it. It should be a better match up over the long term if it is this late in the season.

I'm with you on the third week thing. It made it tougher for us to find a good TV spot for the game. Got relegated to some pretty rough spots a couple times.

 

I guess that holds double for the last week of the season. This year it'd be going toe-to-toe with UGA/GaTech, USC/Clemson, Alabama/Auburn, Ohio State/Michigan, Notre Dame/Stanford, Florida/Florida St., and USC/UCLA just to name the top of the list.

You also have to consider some of those games may be played on Thursday or Friday. I know the UGA/Tech, USC/Clemson, Bama/Auburn games have been before that Saturday slot in recent years. That is a big rivalry week.

Andrea Adelson confirmed your thoughts in her ESPN article about the move. The switch to the end of the season came at the request of the ACC and SEC.
