Looks to me like the conferences have something cooking with ESPN to bill this as some sort of ACC/SEC rivalry weekend which should bode well for the game getting a decent time slot and on either the big one or the deuce. Purely speculation on my part though, could end up on FoxSports Shelbyville for all I know (that is a nice one liner).

 

I like the game better as a week one date, but since that's gone, this is a decent alternative. Rivalry game that could keep both fan bases involved in football further into basketball season. My guess is the game either finds a niche here, or is gone in short order. Could go either way IMO. But, if the SEC expands their conference schedule, this game is doomed no matter where you put it.

 

Lots of good posts in this thread, but for those who seem to think Louisville made a "jump" in football by joining the ACC, learn to "just say no." The ACC plays more bad football than the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving.

 

I expect Louisville to jump to the head of the class immediately in the ACC. Future dates with the likes of BC, Virginia, Carolina, Duke, Wake, Carolina St., Tech shouldn't strike fear into anyone.

I understand where you're coming from, but entering the ACC is certainly a huge jump from the old Big East and is DEFINITELY a big step up from the American Athletic. Sure, Wake and BC aren't anything to write home about, but UofL's current league doesn't have a team comparable to Va. Tech (sometimes), Clemson or Miami, much less Florida State.

I totally agree that it is a step up from this season in the American Athletic. I disagree that it's a step up from the former Big East. UC, Rutgers, UConn, etc. had some pretty good teams during Louisville's time in the league. I'm not sure the ACC will offer better competition on a annual basis. The schools you mention all have a good pedigree, but have been more down than up recently. ACC football as a whole isn't very good. This is why I think Louisville can jump right in and be in the mix for a title most years.

 

And just so we are clear, I think UL's move to the ACC was a great move for the school. It's a great conference overall. Very challenging in many sports. But in football, I think Louisville has a chance to rake. Great move by the school.

I still don't see why UK continues to play this game. With the SEC schedule I would have 4 non conference cake walks each year. Please don't say it's for instate recruiting either.

With UL moving to the ACC I could see this game going away at some point. I think you will continue to see non-conference rivalry games fall by the wayside. The risk is greater than the reward. Besides bragging rights the game does not mean all that much.

This is exactly why I said this game will be no more within five years. UK needs as many cupcakes as they can get on the schedule, and Louisville is not that. UofL would potentially benefit from beating UK, if UK can get back to at least being somewhat competitive in the SEC. Other than the bragging rights as you said, there's not much to this game anymore.

There will also be a shift in focus from UL's side of things as well. They will have more significant games they can build their resume with in conference. Being in the Big East - regardless of how good or bad UK was - the UK game is a resume builder for UL because they are in a power conference. A rivalry game is not one you screw around with even if you are the better team because as the cliche goes, you can throw out the records in a rivalry game. See WVU a few years back losing to Pitt in the final game of the season. Heck, they were going to play in the national title game. That was an inner-conference game, but you catch my drift.

Neither team benefits. This game is good for the fans only. As a fan, I love it.

 

If I'm in charge of UK's scheduling, though, I dump the game & replace the Cards with Poop State.
