In Fort Thomas there was St. Thomas High School. now is just a elem/ middle school. They did not have a football team, but they did have some great basketball teams. I believe Highlands/NCC chocked out the high school attendance.

Did Ken Shields coach there?

Two schools come to my mind. First MMI, which went out of business multiple times. In 1969 (with 21 players), they upset Bryan Station 19-6. It was their homecoming game and they dressed over 100. They were rated #1 in state, and had Harry Sykes at QB, backed up by Doug Flynn, and I believe Frank Lemaster at LB, with multiple other D1 signees.

MMI had Irvine sideline capes on they had purchased on the cheap when Irvine either merged or dropped football?

Irvine merged in with Estill County in the late 60s/early 70s but I think they had almost the same colors arms MMI.

I remember Garrard County routing MMI in 1988. I was seven years old and I felt bad for them. Then dad told me about their long history and I remember thinking how cool their school sounded.

I dated a girl from Whitesburg for a couple years. Went to a football game and a couple regional basketball games with her. But my biggest regret was no going to a game at the old gym. That chance will never come back.

Yes, Mr. Shields was the coach at St. Thomas.

Virgie High School in the mountains, I believe it was the home of Todd May.

I love reading what all of you old farts have written in this chat.HAHAHAHA

She says she remembers your dad, and graduated with your Uncle.
