I, obviously, don't know much about Ashland other than they will traditionally punch you in the mouth and try to enforce their will. Do they have a passing game to come back if they get down by multiple scores? NewCath, traditionally, has done very well against the run, not so much when spread out and forced to cover. The Breds have the backbone in place to be very good by the end of this season. A home run hitter at both QB and RB, as Franzen is a tremendous athlete and Smith can fly. The question mark will be how quickly the O-Line gels and the WRs mature. Defensively up the middle they will be strong. Sutkamp is the real deal as a LB. Still too many question marks to accurately judge who NewCath will be, but the P word is there to have a great year.

 

Typically Ashland is a fairly balanced offense... but have no clue what the new coach's philosophy will be or where they will make their living aside from using their talented RB Baker.

 

I will say if 2012 Ashland played 2012 NewCath I would say Ashland would have been a 18-22 point favorite. They were firmly in that second tier of 4A last year with the likes of Johnson Central, LexCath, Collins, Boyle County, etc. Of course with Highlands being all by their lonesome at the top with CovCath behind them. For the sake of comparison NewCath lost to Holmes 12-7 and Ashland routed Holmes 41-14. How that translates to 2013 I have no clue... probably no influence whatsoever HAHA I will also venture a guess that Ashland will be bigger and slightly more athletic..

By that I refer to Brady Thacker who was injured the first part of the season. I don't know exactly which game he returned and maybe he was there for the Holmes game. But once he returned, NCC was a very different and much better team.

The City of Newport and the Newport School Board are missing out on a great opportunity. If they cleared the trees in front of the "Garden" and sold parking spots as season tickets, they could make some money since the stadium will be used every Friday. They could control alcohol consumption that way as well.
