August 12, 201313 yr DBacks next 10 are against Orioles (3), Pirates (3), and Reds (4). Pirates and Cards play 3 starting Tuesday. Can the Reds capitalize playing the bottom feeders in the NL Central and Arizona in the next 14 games?
August 12, 201313 yr Just got back from spending the past 7 or 8 hours on the Riverfront, between the Reds, the postgame concert and the Bengals practice at PBS. Wanted to get an idea of what was shown on TV about a couple of plays. One was when Izturis cuts off the throw from Choo, and tries to throw behind the runner at second. My initial reaction when I saw it was that Phillips got alligator arms and never even tried to reach for it. But after giving it some thought, I figured he was probably telling (motioning) to Cesar to "hold it"...and was just completely surprised that the ball was thrown almost at point-blank range. Did replay give any clue as to what was going on? The second play involved the attempted pick-off play at second, that Leake ended up throwing into center. When I saw Izturis lying on top of the runner, I figured that they'd get him for interference, so wasn't surprised at the call. Phillips however, seemed to go nuts, and kept pointing towards third. The only thing I could figure was that the third base coach was yelling "Get back on the bag", and was therefore showing that the runner wasn't trying to advance to third...just trying to return to second. Again, any explanation?
