August 5, 201313 yr Any word who is going to produce the 30 for 30 film on Manziel's fall from stardom? No word on a producer but I hear Ryan Leaf is supposed to narrate.
August 5, 201313 yr I think this is going to be really interesting to see how it plays out. College football's #1 money maker is basically calling the NCAA's bluff. Do they have the stones to suspend him, and lose out on 10's of millions of dollars in profits? My guess is no.

Losing Johnny Football won't cost the NCAA 10's of millions...TV contracts are already done, merchandising for one player no matter how big isn't that big of a payout to the NCAA, they get a small percentage of rights fees from sales. A&M already sold 95% of the tickets they are going to sell this year...little if any financial loss for school or NCAA...a few less jersey sales and maybe a hit to A&M fund raising is about all that will suffer. It is a bigger embarrassment than anything else for NCAA and A&M.
August 5, 201313 yr I hate to say it, but I never liked the kid from the beginning. He had a great year last year (obviously) but I think that was the last safety check on his ego and approach to things. IF proven that he did receive payment, I am sure he will simply give the NCAA the finger and say he overslept, and will declare for the draft. I don't think he cares about anything but himself.

Yep he is a big ol' turd, this won't faze him any...I hope is get's to play a couple of games, I'd like to see that Bama D get another shot at him.
August 5, 201313 yr Here is the crazy part the NCAA is upset he may have got paid for his signature yet Texas A&M offered a seat next to him for $20,000 dollars and they have more than his family. NCAA athletes are exploited. I don't have the fix but I hope they loose the O'Banion case and have to stop exploiting athletes. I don't understand the resentment people have towards him. If he wants to have a good time and ruined his future that is on him, some people act like he ruined their future.

I don't disagree that NCAA athletes are exploited and that they should be paid but he knew better.
August 6, 201313 yr Been out of the loop all day. Did anyone come out and say that they paid him? I saw something on the crawl on ESPN where one guy said he never paid him.

Per what I got from ESPN radio on Sirius/XM this morning on my commute: 'Sources' say they were there and witnessed him sign 'lots' (i.e., think batches or merchandising lots, per my interpretation) of memorabilia at the Miami apartment of a memorabilia dealer while he was there to watch the National Championship game this year, but no one is saying that they witnessed any exchange of money.
August 6, 201313 yr So if he's innocent he spent part of his partying time in Miami, signing 250 autographs for free.... Yeah sure.
August 6, 201313 yr A&M has secured the services of the same law firm that helped keep Cam Newton eligible. Texas A&M retains law firm for Johnny Manziel matter
August 6, 201313 yr So if he's innocent he spent part of his partying time in Miami, signing 250 autographs for free.... Yeah sure. I know what your saying. Sources also said that Gio Gonzales was involved in the Biogenesis scandal, but ultimately he was cleared. It is wrong that it's this way, but everyone wants to be the first to break the story, and sometimes, this leads to take-no-prisoners attitudes when it comes to reporting. This one doesn't look good though, and the number of autographs is more like 1,000 (just from what I heard reported yesterday). It will be interesting to see how it plays out because "prove it" can be a powerful concept. My guess: he's suspended two games. Comes back just in time for Alabama, nice back-story and build up to the game-- that's just my guess though. It may be a case where no one comes forward with concrete proof needed to put him away and he's cleared; it may also be a case where he loses a significant portion of his eligibility (i.e., less like AJ Green selling signed memorabilia punishment and more like Dez Bryant being declared ineligible for having dinner with an agent punishment). Those are two of the cases that I would most compare this situation to.
