I remember some politician saying earlier this year if they calculated the min. wage they did or are suppose to(like they, the gov did)when they first came up with the formula they use, it would be 22.50 an hour, so the fast food people and others in this group are willing to take less than they/we are all suppose to be getting.

 

I make less than we are all supposed to be getting then.

I should be making at least $82 an hour then.

This is why you go to college or trade school, or join the military, folks.

Almost anyone in the world can do the job and there are plenty of people who need a job. That's why it's a bad idea to walk out and ask for $15.

 

It's this simple, IMO.

I hope they fire these idiots. It takes the intelligence level of about a 7 year old to work in fast food. You ask for a raise, they say no, you quit or you go back to work. You don't walk out when you're easily replaceable within the hour.

I'll cross the line for him and bring it back to him. I'll volunteer to cook it myself too before I see the cost of it triple because of unreasonable demands.

I think they were give bad advice on this one, hope they are all "kicked to the curb".

I worked at Shoney's to pay rent and buy beer in college. I made something in the neighborhood of $7 an hour. Not once, ever, did I feel that I deserved $14 an hour to cook steaks and wash dishes. I was ecstatic to get a few hundred dollars on my check.

Not trying to belittle any one that works in fast food because I know it can be demanding always being on your feet and what not. With that said, what special training, degree's or certificates do these employees posses that lead them to believe they should make that much money? Do they realize doubling their salary would basically require doubling the prices on the menu? As a consumer let me decide what I want to eat, a Big Mac and fries for $10.00 or a steak, potato, salad and some rolls for the same price over @ Texas Roadhouse, decisions, decisions.

 

Again I feel as though this is yet another reflection of how society feels like they're entitled, to have a house, a car, a bigger salary. Everyone thinks that they're just as valuable as the guy next to them not taking into consideration that the other guy has a degree and 40k in student loans because of it.

$15 an hour? Get out of town. I've managed a fast food place for about three years now and I don't make $15. My job requires very little skill, and I'd say most people have the mental capacity to complete my job effectively.

 

There is only one way to move up the chain in fast food folks. Bust your butt, be a good co worker and be courteous to customers. I'm all for giving raises, but they need to be assessed on a case by case, individual basis. I'm not going to suggest to my boss that everyone get a raise when only one or two of my workers deserve one.

 

Many fast food companies do good business, including the one I work at. However, we don't make that much money. If all of our employees started making double what we are now, then we would have to raise prices an outrageous amount. We aren't a chain, just a mom and pop kind of place and a huge part of our identity is cheap food. If we no longer offered our food at cheap prices, then we would lose just about all of our customer base. At this point, we would all be looking for new jobs.

Walking out on the employer is unacceptable...period. They have a right to ask for better wages. To organize others and damage the employer is grounds for termination, and a real good reason not to take them back.
