I have seen Barnett ref a couple of games, and he does a great job.

Well I will tell you my opinion...If the HS Level teams worked as hard as the young teams we are speaking of then they would be a large amount better. As hard as these teams have worked all year, I believe it is Ok to critique them and award them their due. :thumb:

 

Take Rose Hill for instance, not many teams out there in 5th Grade that would practice 5 days a week and play in 2 leagues EVERY Saturday, one in Boyd County and one in Greenup County, just to be BETTER ball players....So give them some credit....These are not your normal young athletes these days. :thumb: Push them to the side now if you would like, but you will hear about them soon.

I concur that the little ones work hard & there is nothing wrong with "giving them their due". I love seeing the little ones succeed too, but these championships are NOT a statistical predictor of later success. Ive seen an overwhleming # of youth teams that were unbeatable go one to do nothing really.

 

There are limitations on how much practice and # of games for athletes who are in HS and even mature adults(18yo+) in college. Sounds like some adults need to read the research on what is appropriate physically AND emotionally for LITTLE KIDS.

 

And Im someone who loved to practice everyday also. One year our Babe Ruth age players went basically 6 days a week from March to start of school .....aaargh It took me some time to learn, but there needs to be a balance and at some point you run into the law of diminishing returns.

 

Have fun cheering on the little ones :banana: but letthem be kids too.

Rose Hill forfeited after they couldnt bring down Euton, Beair, and Jackson. I still think they should have played, they could have brought the remaining 6 or 7 and played the game. Ashland most likely would have beat them, but they should have played the game and see how it would have came out. Congrats to Ashland on a great season.

They should have played the game with the players who normally play for the freshman team.For Ashland to put on this tourn and then lose the championship game to this is ridiculous. Just look at the lost revenue not to mention not even playing a championship game.

Ohh ok. I agree, they should have gotten to play. That's also not right for the teams the had previously beaten, because that could have been them in the championship. I think Rose Hill should have looked into all the possibilites that could come up, such as not being allowed to let some players play. Then their spot in the AIT could have been taken up by another team.

Leaving Rose Hill with a grade total of 3 eligable 7th graders and several 4th, 5th, and 6th graders.

 

Basically a student is not allowed to play in a sporting event on every night between Monday and Thursday. They must have at least one day off during that period. Give the fact that the AIT was on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday and Rose HIll had a JV/Varsity game on Tuesday anyone, not just Euton, Jackson, and Bair, who played in these games was ineligable. If any of these kids played Rose Hill would be forced to cancel their varsity games on Friday and Saturday.

 

The losers in this situation are the players from Ashland. This is their championship. It is what they play and practice for the entire season. At least that was the case when I help coach their freshman several years ago. If I were the players I would ask for the game to be rescheduled.

The way I understood was that they could still bring a team of around 7 players, but if they had to bring 4th, 5th, and 6th graders than I understand why they didn't play. Ashland did get a tough break, but this was an odd situation so it's understandable.

Why not? Let the kids play. Nobody worth their salt wants their season to end on a forfeit. Find a date.

From what I understand the KHSAA actually suggested it be rescheduled. However, I also understand Ashland actually cut the net down. I'm not kidding they actually cut the nets down following the forfeit. Really they got a ladder out, climb up it and cut the nets of the basket. I guess a rescheduling is out of the question.

 

Someone please tell me that a ticker tape parade hasn't been scheduled.

If the KHSAA rules prevented Rose Hill's kids from playing tonight, would you be in favor or rescheduling the game (if a date can be worked out), or would you rather the game stay as a forfeit?

 

For my money, I would like to see the schools find a date, just as Rickyp, Gopack21, and Kinglion have suggested.

 

I'm pretty sure that they could find some new nets to string up.
