Good grief Doc, don't pop off and then back peddle! Go for the knock-out, shame on Ashland for stacking the odds in their favor in the Ashland Invitational Tournament. Shame on the Cats :irked:

LOL - what nerve!! How dare they try to make the tournament profitable??

I always like UK's Invitational. It's the Highly Rank Kentucky Wildcats against Cleveland State, Union and Alice Lloyd

The one year I went East Carter beat Russell in the Finals. Very Entertaining and a well run tournament. My only concern would be playing in that tiny Gym. Freshman players are generally so fast that there is a lot of players running into the wall pretty hard. I would think for safety reasons they could let them play on the High School Court.

Any updates? Who is playing for Rose Hill?

I don't remember Cleveland State being in UKIT, they have been pretty good over the years. Maybe that team from Indiana...IUPUSI, there may be more letters and the order may be different? You get the picture

I was just using Cleveland State as an example of the caliber teams UK generally brings into there UKIT. Actually, I was being rather sarcastic. And it's IUPUI (Indiana University Purdue University of Indiana) Some people pronouce it as ewy pewy

I received a PM that indicated that I was trying to spin the method by which the brackets are made. The PM pointed out that Ashland's Freshmen were benefitting from being placed in a good bracket.

I did not intend to make it sound as if it were somehow a blind draw, or that Ashland didn't set it up to survive as long as they could (see item "C" in my list). In my response to the PM, I made the point that every tournament that I've ever been involved in does take into account the teams that "travel better". This is exactly why UK can win 6 games in football, and be a virtual lock to get a bowl bid. The people that run the bowls know that UK football fans come out in droves to support even a mediocre team, and that support swells the coffers.

Does Ashland get as good a place in the bracket as they can? Absolutely. It is a fairly good bet that as long as they stay alive, they will have a pretty good backing. So, from a purely financial standpoint, it only makes sense to see that they have the best chance possible to go as deeply as they can. By the same token, playing an extra game or two and (hopefully) winning them, is one of the perks of hosting the tournament.

I distinctly remember being on the committee of the Verity Tournament for grade school teams one year (my first), when we started talking about seeding the brackets. I naively stated that we ought to make sure that the Ashland teams should be spread out, so that we wouldn't face each other in the first round (we had already played each other at least twice). I got a very curt answer - to the effect that a couple of our grade schools didn't bring much in the way of fans - and they would be placed against a couple of the Boyd County teams that were good. I didn't understand this, until one of the people on the committee told me that the two BC teams that they were playing both brought BIG crowds with them (Ponderosa and Cannonsburg). I learned something that day - it had as much to do with the money generated as it did "advancing" the Ashland teams. Since that day, every tournament that I have been involved in takes those same principles into account. By the way - we raised over $7,000 dollars at that years Verity tournament.

C'est la vie.

East Carter beat Raceland by 15 in the first game tonight. I believe Ashland was up 2 at halftime on Boyd County in the 2nd game. Both games have been very exciting.....

Tough to beat them Ponderosa Mustangs... :thumb:

Ashland 37

Boyd 35

Would have been nice for Boyd to pull this one off.....

I cant say as I blame Rose Hill, these young men are still 8th Graders. Let the kids be kids and enjoy their age for once, instead of playing older players night after night.. :thumb:

That was the first year that Ponderosa was open. That team was very good (it had one of the Seasor boys on it), and Cannonsburg had some serious talent). One thing was readily apparent - Ponderosa brought the biggest crowd of all. Of course, if I remember correctly, they had about 45 cheerleaders too. :thumb:

I would be remiss if I didn't mention that the Poage Pioneers won it all that year...

Boyd played the Tomcats very tough tonight. They didn't quit until the game was over, which was proved by a half court 3 pointer with 1 second remaining. Neither team played great, but Ashland did what they had to do to win. This is Ashlands 3rd win against BC, which is hard to do against any team. They will have the opprotunity to do it again against East Carter on Wednsday.
