IMHO, and coming from someone from EKY, I cant list them with the other blue bloods. Certainly as I pointed out Boyle doesn't earn their distinction based on history..just recent history..but even then Bowling Green's historical laurels in my eyes are not of an elite program. With both of their State Titles in the recent era and the vast majority of their State Finals success coming from the 6 Class System it is hard for me to give that bump to the next level.

 

Bowling Green has One State Title and Only one State Runner-Up Pre-2000's. Obviously Boyle County doesn't have merits pre 2000's (only their Title in 1999 to begin their run).. but their success in the 2000's was one of the most dominant runs in KY History and has made them one of the premier names when you think of KY HS Football in it's current state. With that, the height of it was before the 6 Class System

 

FWIW, I think you put BG at the top of that second group and Boyle at the bottom of the first if you were asked to assign a position.

Ill bet if a household national poll was done people might be surprised that Highlands and Trinity are the household names across the USA when KY HS football comes to mind.

 

No disrespect to anyone else but that is nature of the beast, its all about National exposure, Highlands and T has it and its tough to find anyone else in KY with it.

 

The State Championships speak for themselves and T's National Title and Highlands National 3rd finish a few yrs ago might have something to do with it all.

 

The National TV exposure doesnt hurt either. :thumb:

 

A lot of programs and people know about Louisville X as well.

Two big differences between Highlands and T.

 

T has the National Title and Highlands has been winning State Titles since 1960.

 

T is a program that surfaced within the last 30 yrs as Highlands has been known for the last 60 yrs.

The older successful program like Highlands still competes with the New Era successful program like T.

They basically compliment each other and overall the National Title gets T the nod as top program in KY imo. Without the Natl Title Highlands is the team simply because of the longevity of the program...JMO

 

T is a New Era successful program when they have been winning state championships since 1968? (68, 72, 73, 76, 77, 80, 83, 85, 88, 89, 90, 94, 01, 02, 03, 05, 06, 07, 08, 10, 11, 12) With the exception of the second half of the 90's, the state championships are fairly spread out. 45 years is a little too long to consider a new era.

 

With almost a half centry of winning a state championship just about every other year and and a national title I think Trinity would be considered to have longevity of having an elite program. Coach Kennedy got Trinity noticed, Coach Moore got Trinity on the path to becoming an elite program, Coach Lampley established Trinity as an elite program and Beatty is solidifying that status.

A lot of programs and people know about Louisville X as well.

2) What does everyone see in Scott Co? Maybe my memory is fading but I just don't remember much in the way of state titles from them.

 

I should have included Beechwood. Scott County hasn't won any titles but the thread isn't about championships. They may not be on the level of T or X but they've been a pretty solid 6A team for quite a few years.

 

John Hardin has also been solid, they just can't seem to win the hardware.

Scott County has been tough for years.

I would probably slip Boone County in there somewhere. No state championships but they have had some consistently good teams over the years.

Maybe I Missed something, but what about these guys? This is from Wikipedia:

 

"PTHS has won state titles in 1973, 1985, and 2009 with runner-up finishes in 1980, 1987–1989, and 1992. The football program has produced two Kentucky Mr. Football award winners, Kurt Barber in 1987 and Billy Jack Haskins in 1992. During the 2007 season, Tilghman won its 700th football game, beating Webster County 49-21 to become just the fourth team in Kentucky to reach this mark. Tilghman has fielded a football team since 1904,[1] with an overall record of 704-286-25 entering the 2009 season.[1] In the 2009 season,they won the AAA State Championship against the Somerset Briar Jumpers 21-0. They run a play called the doom dive."

As I recall they had a nationally ranked squad back in the 1950s. I think they deserve consideration among the Cadillac foot

ball teams.

One team that I have not seen mentioned, Manuel, has historically been one of the more successful programs in the state. I know a lot of folks on here don't give much credence to anything that took place prior to 1960, but some of have been around a lot longer and have an appreciation for the past. I don't know where they fit, but top 25 in all time wins nationally, along with claim to a national title. Though it is a mythical title it is the only one by a KY school until Trinity's last year.

They were called Du Pont Manual as I recall. I had the pleasure of playing HS ball for an assistant coach who came from that program. A Top-notch guy.
