All I know is that I have watched both players hundreds of times and I felt that it was pretty much impossible to stop Jordan. LeBron and Kobe are great players but they just aren't on the same level as MJ, IMO. And also IMJO lol

 

Lebron has been impossible to stop. As has Kobe IMO. Stopping their teams is different than stopping the players AND we still have yet to see the best of Lebron. If Lebron wins 4 in a row the conversation of who is better ramps up. MJ never won 4 in a row.

Maybe if LeBron goes on double secret probation and plays in Pro Whiffle Ball League, then comes back and wins 3 titles.

Very true. But in full disclosure the competition was a lot better in the later 80s compared to the mid-2000s. Especially in the Eastern Conference. The Cavs team that went to the Finals most likely would have been a 6-8 seed in the west at that time. The Eastern Conference was bad for about an 8 or 9 year span.

NBA as a whole wasn't great during most of the 90's either. 80-90 was strongest decade of recent history in the NBA...IMO.

Jordan never got the luxury of teams backing off of him 5-10 feet daring him to shoot. Lebron scored in game 7, but my God, no other superstar has been given open shots because the other team doesn't respect his jumper. To his credit, he hit them, but they should have been closed out in game 6, when he missed most of his jumpers.

Um, yeah he did. It took Jordan 4-5 years before he became a consistent threat with his jumper. He didn't discover his outside touch until later; the early part of his career was all about what eye-popping dunk/drive he would do next. It's kind of why he had that shoulder-shrug reaction in his three-ball game in the Portland series. The comparisons of MJ to the Doc were very common for Jordan's first half-decade in the league.

Because the '90s were the last round of expansion, which thinned out the talent level in the league. In the '80s, teams like Boston, Philly and LA were able to stockpile talent to the point where the top teams had four and sometimes five solid scoring options. Most NBA teams now are lucky to have two, and we end up with a lot of guys like Chris Bosh was at Toronto — stat stuffers for terrible teams — who might be a No. 5 guy or a sixth man in the '80s.

... and easily got swept. The Jordan apologists will say, and with some merit, that a MJ team would never go down like that. I think it hurts worse that the Cavs would later have the league's best record twice and not make the finals when all through the season they were the best team.

 

At the end of the day, some of these scenarios are nitpicky and will not be considered 30 years down the road. "The Decision" and the Dallas meltdown I believe will always be with him though. The finals appearance with Cleveland will be viewed as a positive and people will not make much out of losing with the league's best record shy of the finals.

Wasn't even close to the same team as what Lebron had. Mo Williams was traded mid season and Varejo got hurt. Someone else retired or something I think as well.
