We can all agree on this Handicapped Violation, correct?

As a matter of fact it's exactly what you said. I would say the majority of people using handicap spots are elderly.

You can believe what you want regarding what I meant. Doesn't make you any less wrong though.

I guess it comes to whether you think naturally getting old is a physical disability. The way Guru worded his initial post I questioned, made it seem like the sole reason those people have handicapped permits is because they're old, as if that in and of itself is sufficient.

My grandma is 83 years old, has bad knees, and struggles walking in general. She doesn't have a handicapped permit, because, as she says, "I'm not disabled, I'm just old". She can still get where she needs to go, it just takes her longer than it used to. I don't think she should have a handicapped permit, and that's the type I thought of with regards to his original post.

It goes without saying that not all elderly are handicapped. There are those with moderate disabilities that could probably qualify for a tag that choose not to.

For the last 10 years of my mother's life, she was in a wheelchair. There were multiple occasions that I needed to take her somewhere and needed to park where I could get her in and out of the car and no HC spots were available. On more occasions than I could count, there were cars parked in those spots that did not display a permit. It makes me a little sad to remember some of those times and the look on her face, feeling like she was a burden to me as I was trying to figure out what to do.

Now, I'm glad to walk from the far end of a parking lot when need be...because I can. Who knows that any of us will experience and need in the future.

And the bolded was the whole point of my post, which I've attempted to explain numerous times. Why some can't accept that and assume to know what I meant better than me, boggles my mind.

I guess that perhaps we didn't see anything wrong with how theguru worded his post. We understood that he was saying exactly that, so were unsure of your question.

I have not researched it but there almost has to be a direct relationship between age and handicapped parking permits. Certainly I don't mean any offense and my use of the word older is in line with what is on the Silver Sneakers website. If I have offended anyone please PM me.

I am disappointed but not surprised that someone on here would suggest I would lie/mislead about the use of the handicapped spaces. Adding to the information, SOAS is much more than just a gym. They have basketball leagues, volleyball leagues, Zumba, personal training, bowling, arcade, MMA Fights, Roller derby, basketball camps, Club Volleyball, etc. etc. The place is a flat out zoo and it is very common for all the spots to be taken. And I would never lie about something like this or anything for that matter.

Are you talking about me? Because that wasn't at all what I was trying to do. When I say "I find it hard to believe that at that gym all 6 spaces are full", I'm immediately thinking in my mind that people with permits who don't really need them are parking there. Wasn't at all trying to call in to question the validity of your comment.

Yes I was talking about you UK but if that is what you were trying to say I take you at your word.

With the additional, do you see how those spots could be in demand?

And yet, I'd be willing to bet you sped almost every time you drove with your kids in the car....
And you would lose your money. My wife would have gone ballistic on me.

There was only one other spot available when I left. Again, spots 1 though 4 were blocked, spot 5 was taken, and spot 6 was open for that moment in time but remember we are talking about much longer than a moment in time.

Question-was the 5 spot taken by a driver that LEGITIMATELY used his/her pass? Meaning. .was the driver or anyone in the car handicapped and patronizing the business? Because as much as this burns all y'all up....it burns me up more when able bodied people use an expired pass, or a friend or relative's pass, or use a pass they have so they can provide transportation, when they're just out and about on their own. I see this all the time where I work.

This was my point in another one of these threads... They are abused in the "opposite direction" all the time, yet we haven't seen a thread on that yet.

That is just as reprehensible. Start a thread and I'll happily participate. However, that issue doesn't make this one any better.

If you say that is what you meant then I believe you, however there is no other way to take your post the way it was worded.

Not at all. I'm saying it's very easy to be speeding without realizing it for one. It's also a bit less deliberately in the face of another driver to go 5 or 10 miles over the speed limit than it is to knowingly block someone less physically capable than I am from having access to an establishment.

If someone disregarding the speed limit causes a multi-car wreck due to their high speed aren't they causing a greater hindrance to someone else?
