Gas Prices

We do agree that there is no law saying you have to live where you live, right?

Not entirely true, some people due to law, may be forced to live in certain areas.

OK. My point still stands. 99% of Americans are free to move wherever they can afford. We all make choices. We live with the consequences as well as the bonuses.

As I stated before the recent output by refineries is at a 5-yr low. That's driving prices. But, again, even if it's simply "extra profit" I don't want any govt agency involved. I can either pay it or change something. I get to choose.
Do you not see something wrong with the system when they can just reduce output in order to increase their price? And please stop with the change something crap, or move, or change jobs. That just isn't realistic for the majority of the population. Yes I can go buy a car that gets better gas mileage. That doesn't change the fact that the refineries just have to low out put again and the price shoots up another .30 of pure profit.

The reason the prices are so high in the Midwest is because of continued refinery troubles in the Midwest. Prices are now the highest in the Midwest are now the highest in the nation outside of LA and New York.

We need more refineries, we needed them 10 years ago! If just a couple of them go down for whatever reason prices will jump in parts of the nation. What do you think will happen when terrorist strike a few refineries? Notice I said when, not if, it will happen, it just depends on when. Which brings up the part where we are lazy overall when it comes to security.

Also, Saudi Arabia may not be the force they once were, they are still a force.

While I don't like the impact it has on my wallet I don't see anything wrong with it .

Let's say there are 3 gas stations on Dixie Hwy in Erlanger. Let's assume they have similar overall costs.

What are the chances I'm going to see one vastly undercut the other two? Very slim. Why? If two of the three were truly jacking up the price to make "$0.30 profit" then that would seem to indicate the third could still make a profit but be 15 to 20 cents less. He'd get more business. Sell more high-profit items like soft drinks, chips, and candy bars, right? Yet we don't see it.

What does that tell you? The individual gas station owners aren't making the profit you think they are on gas. Gas is such a low-margin item that IF they only sold gas they wouldn't stay in business. They HAVE to sell the other stuff in order to pay employees and making a living for themselves.

I'd ask all of us what exactly we're doing to try to change the rut we're in regarding being reliant upon gasoline? If it's nothing (which it really is) then we're just wasting our breath.

Who said anything about the gas stations? they aren't the ones making the extra .30 for no reason.

Gotcha.

Then it gets back to shortages and free market. Again, it sucks for us sometimes but that's on us.
