Big congrats to Jeremy, asst coaches and the players (current and recent past). What you guys have done is truly impressive. Big tip of the hat also to the parents of the players. Great support.

Let's get some more wins.

I would also include props to Q Murray behind the plate picking a runner off of first to end one scoring threat and turning a double play to end another in back to back innings. He is a leader.

I was talking to someone about the way he plays behind the plate and , in particular, his live arm. I mentioned there are times you hold your breath on some of his attempts but they are so outweighed by the smart, strong throws that you just let the others roll off your back. I love a good athletic catcher.

All runs must come to an end. NCC has had a strangle hold on this district for many many years. In fact I can remember reading not too long ago about how bad this district was. Kudos to the Breds on being perennial regional powers for many years. And yes they definitely have the ability to win it again this year. Congrats to the Bluebirds for pushing their program to match the Breds.

But perhaps we might be seeing some changes in this district taking place with NCC graduating many gifted players. We shall see............

Certainly has quieted the, "Is football eating baseball?" threads.

Update on Al Grau from his mom via FB:

"Last night at the District game Alex was first up to bat in the 1st inning, when a foul bat that he hit came back off his bat and hit him in his right eye. We left the field by ambulance and they took him to Children's Hospital, where they did a cat scan. He has 4 fractured bones around his eyes, 4 stitches and a lot of blood in his eyeball. We saw the Ophthalmologist at 8 a.m. and he will see another Ophthalmologist at 1 tomorrow for an ultrasound of his eye. Thank you to the Coaches at N.C., his teammates, the Highland High School and Newport trainers, the Paramedics, the parents and everyone who was there for us. Thank you also for all the continued thoughts and prayers for Al."

Great win for Highlands. This game last night don't mean nothing remember last year be careful whst you say Sweepboy don't won't to wake a team up that is already motivated from a serious injury to one of their best players. Win the game that matters the region not the district.

Winning the district is great but it don't guaranteed you a better draw. Yes it was great for Highlands Baseball, but if you would ask the players winning the region is a whole lot better. NewCath has won 3 out 5 regions in the past five years do you think if they didn't they would say well atleast we won district come on. I'm fans of both Schools have friends and both Coach B wants to win the big one. And to say NewCath is not better this year then last year you are crazy they are good. Good Luck to both Teams next week

Very true about hitting Newcath had a soph that lead them in hitting this year. I think Highlands and Newcath are very similar in teams Highlands don't hit either the only two players had all thier hits Whitford and Ramey outside of that it drops a little Murray can hurt you also. Last night was Highlands best game they played all year on the D. IMO

Exhausting! Absolutely exhausting my friend! Not real sure where any of what you said was going, but I guess I get your jest of things!

Go luck to both teams on the Region. Here's hoping for a rematch of last years Regional title game.

Go Birds!

I'm having trouble understanding how the ball hit the Grau boy in the eye.

Did it bounce straight up?

Another update on Alex from his mom on FB:

We saw the Plastic Surgeon at Children's and Al will have to have surgery, next Thursday... they will put a plate above his eyelid and a plate below his eye. Our biggest prayer now, is that his vision is okay. We go back to Children's at 1 p.m. tomorrow and they will do an ultrasound of his Right eye to see if there is any damage. Please keep him in your prayers! Love to all!

Couldn't be in better hands than those from Children's.

What year is Alex?

He's a senior. Just signed a letter of intent to play baseball at Shawnee State.

Thanks. I'm sure all will be fine and he'll be playing ball in Portsmouth this fall.

It came off the bat into his eye. A very freak accident that you rarely see. I'm assuming he was early on the pitch and had the bat at an odd angle.

What don't you get my friend. District Championship don't mean that much anymore especially in baseball. NewCath in basketball has won 5 straight district champoinships and this year had to play Holmes in first round of the 9th region tourney. I think they rather win the region not district its not rocket science my friend. Like I said Good Luck to Both Teams next week
