Highlands 3 Newport Central Catholic 0

Featured Replies

Congrats to the Birds...

What an incredible turnaround from just a very short time ago. It wasnt that long ago that I was told from someone very close to the NewCath baseball program that if they didnt have to play Highlands then they wouldnt because NewCath was getting absolutely nothing out of these matchups.

Now fast fwd just a few short yrs and "BIRDS ARE BACK"

Cochran was outstanding with a strong D behind him that played error free baseball and some timely hitting from his teammates. :thumb:

When was the last time that Highlands swept NewCath in baseball during the regular season?

Iam guessing '96 and '97, anyone?

Jake Whitford

Refresh my memory.

Shortstop?

Lets all hope NCC doesn't break that runner up trophy this year like last year.

Shortstop?

Yes. Sophomore.

Yes. Sophomore.

That's what I thought. Smoothest SS I've seen in a while in the 9th.

Needs to put on some muscle to add some more consistent pop at the plate. If so, he has a chance to be a D1 SS.

I believe he is returning to the gridiron this year. That should help tremendously

I did hear that.

Yes, smooth youngster and only a sophomore. Kid has always been a natural in all 3 sports but focused on baseball in the last couple years and its really paying off. Older brother Ritchie was a beast on the offensive line the past couple years for the football team.

He still has about 4 inches to grow, so he may have an issue filling out a ton. Great athlete.

Nothing wrong with Whitford's pop today, He hit it square all nite with the no doubter I mean HR and then another shot in the gap for a standup double.

Next batter SO Ramey hits a line drive and Whitford scores easily.

FWIW, I thought Ramey was outstanding at 1st base and dug out at least 3 balls in the dirt.

Birds made the Defensive plays and NewCath did not, difference in game imo.

Ramey runs the bases extremely well for a big kid.......very smart base runner..I believe he had 3 stolen bases tonight..

I saw that but Iam not real sure he is that fast. He does run well for a big fella but he did steal all three bases on breaking balls that the NewCath pitcher threw into the dirt every other pitch.

I have other ideas as to how he stole three bases but I will keep that to myself. LOL

Both sophomores also. Ramey has great potential in all 3 sports. He really came on strong on the JV basketball team after not even playing hoops his frosh year. Jakey will definitely fill out before its all said and done.

I would also include props to Q Murray behind the plate picking a runner off of first to end one scoring threat and turning a double play to end another in back to back innings. He is a leader.
