Best wishes to Alex Grau from NCC as he fractured his eye orbital in 3 spots and smashed a muscle under his eye today on a foul ball.
Alex Grau is to have surgery next Thursday at Children's Hospital. They are putting a plate above his eyelid and one below his eye. The docs are still concerned about his vision and he is seeing an Opthamologist at Children's, daily. Keep Alex in your prayers.

Definitely Keep the Grau family in.your prayers.

Thoughts and prayers to Alex and his family!

I'm having trouble understanding how the ball hit the Grau boy in the eye.

Did it bounce straight up?

Clyde, Alex had two strikes on him. Pitch was a little high and inside(too close to take with 2 strikes) he was just trying to foul it off. He kind of chopped at it and was out in front of it just a bit. The ball hit the inside part of his bat and struck him in eye. Freak play.

First off prayers for a successful surgery and full recovery for Alex Grau.

Secondly, the Breds are the regional champions until someone beats them. But to try and tell me or anyone else that losing that game doesn't mean anything to them is ludicrous. It is not the end of the world but if you asked every young man on that team they will tell you it mattered to them and I can assure it does to the parents and the majority of the fan base. If I were them I would play it off also in a manner that says "Hey we lost in the district last year and look at what we did, thats ok we'll just win the region". I would do the same thing as a coach or player. But in reality it does matter for pride and more importantly for momentum going into the regional tournament. NCC has a very nice team and they will certainly contend for the championship

Thirdly, congratulations to Coach Bioni and the Birds! You have worked hard and it shows as the team plays with confidence. Get yourself ready and lets go win 3 games next week!

GO BIRDS!

From face book today...

We brought Alex to the Opthamologist for an ultrasound of his eye. He is now in the operating room for emergency surgery. Looking at his eye, there is a bump. The doc feels like something is causing this...maybe a tear behind the eyeball, which he would repair. Of course he still has the 4 orbital fractures...surgery for that on Thursday. Keep the prayers coming!

and later

Update...Alex just got out of surgery about an hour ago. He had a major tear in his eyeball. They had to cut through a muscle to get to the entire tear on his eyeball...25 stitches. Alex has a long road ahead. PLEASE CONTiNUE TO PRAY FOR ALEX!

Prayers to Alex and the Grau family...

Update on Alex Grau:

Please keep Alex in your prayers, yet again! He will have surgery to repair his detached retina, tomorrow. It has been confirmed that they are no longer worried that he will lose his eyeball, from the trauma he received from the popped up foul ball, but he faces more surgeries for the retina and cataracts in the future. He is our WARRIOR and he has been very, very brave during the past 3 1/2 weeks. For an entire week he will lay flat on his stomach...only getting up 10 min of every hour. Thank you to all!
