Oh how times have changed. Discussion about TOO MANY HHS students coming to a BASEBALL game and acting TOO boisterous. These are good problems to have.

I have not been around high school baseball on a consistent basis until this year. Took in a lot of freshman and varsity games this year. By far, the most annoying thing is the "chatter". I put chatter in parenthesis because most of it is just seeing how loud/silly of a voice you can throw out there to try and distract the other team. You might as well just throw out some Noonans.

Exactly. Good natured chatter is good, as long as its done at the right times. It has crossed the line. It builds as the pitcher goes into his windup, and can be construed as nothing other than an attempt to distract. One kid in particular for Highlands is especially obnoxious and out of line. Nothing but bush league, IMO, and needs to be stopped

Maybe the pitcher should have some mental toughness. As long as it isn't personal or profanity laden, everything is fair game. Nothing bush league about it. I'm guessing the pitcher didn't do to well during that game since your raising a fuss about it.

Most annoying to me isn't the the gentlemen in Blue, the Coaches from either team, nor the players again from either team.........

I am all for cheering when your team does well. Just stay off the team your team is beating. Thats bush league and it happened a couple of places this year.

Sitting directly behind home plate and heckling any opposing players coming to the plate was the most annoying. What ever happened to going to a game and cheering for your team?

 

I can tolerate an occasional boo or whatever but it seems like the whole idea of "trash talking" has beaten any notion of etiquite and sportmanship to a pulp!

If you gotta scream and distract an opposing team, then obviously you're not playing good baseball in my opinion. I LOVE chatter in a baseball game that encourages your teammates. Not crap that is detrimental to the opposing team. I was always taught to play with class whether winning or loosing. But again, I'm old school.

Now I'm going back 25 years ago, I was surprised playing college ball how much the teams trash talked and tried to get in players heads. Happened every game, now with that said I'm not defending it, just stating that it happened. It was never my style but many of the kids did it. Not sure if it still goes on in college but I would guess yes and sounds like its trickling down to the high school level.

Bench jockeying doesn't bother me. There's a line you don't cross but all is good up to that line.

Your absolutely right about college banter, it's funny, organized and does have the ability to change the momentum of the game. But parents yelling crap behind the backstop is classless. Let the players play the game and the coach should monitor the banner.

Actually, Highlands has lost all three games I have watched them play, and have scored 1,2, and 0 runs, so careful what you assume. These are freaking high school kids. Not grade schoolers.

I'm sorry that your panties are all in a wad over these kids. I guarantee this was part of the reason for HHS run last year. They kept their heads in every game in part to this especially at the end of the year where other teams kids had checked out. Like I said before, as long as they aren't being personal towards the pitcher or using profanity then there should be absolutely no issue with it. And from what I've seen this year and in years past they have don't nothing wrong.
