Yes that can be true. Basketball it's very obvious though.

There is no reason an ump from one region should call anything differently than an ump from another region. Baseball is a simple game to officiate, it's not rocket science.

 

There have been some atrocious umpires this year. There have been some good ones also but too many times there are some that have no reason to be out there.

lol!!! all the other things that need to be tweaked in high school baseball,and the major problem with people are players making too much noise? are you frigg'in kidding me? there where some really annoying things that happened this season,but i put players getting loud way down on the list!!!! and i'm a coach!!! i think old guy nailed it in the first round of threads on this subject. the want to be's sitting in the stands.....that's annoying!!!! some of those people should here themselves!!!! AMAZING!!! good luck to all the teams in the tournament.

Right. I got no dog in the fight, no kids and I am from Minerva OH so I have no alumni ties. My job is to watch kids in the area to see the talent, and see if they want to play for my organization in the summer if they have the skills. I can assure you that you will not see this stuff out of one of our dugouts, from 8u-18u, and not a chance I take on of the little cheerleaders. Noise is one thing, but this stuff has crossed the line.

Maybe you should put your money where your mouth is. Koch's has all the gear you need to get started. There is already a shortage of umpires and people like you don't help the situation.

Never posted before---but I feel compelled to say that I am really saddened by High School coaches that care nothing about the young men entrusted to them and care only about their legacy. I hope they know that for good or bad---the legacy IS being built. How many young men have walked away from the game because of them? Congratulations.

So your solution is to have even more bad umpires? That makes a lot of sense.

Do you see the kid through a non parental eye of objectivity?

Do you see the attitude on the bench or the ability to get along with the other players in the locker room?

Do you see what is taught to the player in practice and then see whether it is or isn't being accomplished in games?

Do you understand that maybe just maybe the young man isn't as good as you think he is, or that he is good but the player in front of him is just better?

Do you not understand that one of the joys in coaching this game is having your former players coming back to visit later in life and to see there success, not in the game but in the former players life?

My guess is you are a parent and through your eyes your son is the greatest player in the world and that is great and good but remember on any given team their are as many as 42 other Moms or Dads who feel their son is the greatest too but it is the job of the Coach to decide who starts and who doesn't and he uses more than just what you see at games to decide who plays and who doesn't!

Well done TOG! I agree with this assesment 100%! I might add - how many kids have stayed and played the game (regardless of playing time) because their coach is a role model and positive influence on and off the field!
