The story is from the LA Times, hardly a conservative bastion.

That's great news, I would not have guessed it.

Of course most wouldn't. That would be counterproductive to this administrations agenda to rid the country of firearms, so the media keeps it under wraps.

You're kidding right? Most Americans think it's up because the media thrives on stories about violence. If it bleeds it leads, as the old saying goes.

That's exactly what I mean. By the way the media acts, you'd think gun violence was at an all-time high. They'd never report that it's down, because it goes against what the administration wants.

What is being 'fixed' with the current efforts?

Gun violence: It may not be what you think | News Cut | Minnesota Public Radio

Compared with 1993, the peak of U.S. gun homicides, the firearm homicide rate was 49% lower in 2010, and there were fewer deaths, even though the nation's population grew. The victimization rate for other violent crimes with a firearm--assaults, robberies and sex crimes--was 75% lower in 2011 than in 1993. Violent non-fatal crime victimization overall (with or without a firearm) also is down markedly (72%) over two decades.

You're finding motive where there's naught but correlation. They're not reporting crime all over the place because it's good for the president; they're reporting crime because it's what drives ratings on news programs and sales at newspapers which in turn drive revenues.

With all the clamoring the media has done over the past 6 months to a year about gun control, etc., you'd think something like this would be major news. It's not, because it completely contradicts this administrations agenda. They have the media in their back pocket and that's the only reason this hasn't been talked about.

Even Holders own DOJ is reporting that gun violence is way down from previous years... Never let a good crisis go to waste...

I for one am glad that "gun crime" is much lower under this administration. I would tout it for all it's worth.

^ Not from this administration.. It doesn't fit their agenda...

It's not just this admin, it apparently has been dropping since the mid 90's.

Good.

If we could get it on a par with most other "civilized countries", I'd be even happier.

What has this administration done to lower it? They want them gone if at all possible and this administration has sold more guns then any ad campaign could ever do. If anything, they're responsible for more guns being out there than ever before, which is the reverse impact that they wanted to have.
