Benghazi...To paraphrase the left from several years ago...

Featured Replies

Okay. So they lied. Now what?

Depends on what they lied about.

EXCLUSIVE: CIA operators were denied request for help during Benghazi attack, sources say | Fox News

"A second force that specializes in counterterrorism rescues was on hand at Sigonella, according to senior military and intelligence sources. According to those sources, they could have flown to Benghazi in less than two hours. They were the same distance to Benghazi as those that were sent from Tripoli. Spectre gunships are commonly used by the Special Operations community to provide close air support. "

So forces were less than 2 hours away. This speculates that they had Puff the Magic Dragon capability (AC-130). Had that been used it would have been messy for the attackers. So the claims of 'too far away' are not credible. In fact forces were in motion or in progress in Spain and Germany before they were told to stand down before leaving the ground - while the battle was going on.

"The American special operators, Woods, Doherty and at least two others were part of the Global Response Staff, a CIA element, based at the CIA annex and were protecting CIA operators who were part of a mission to track and repurchase arms in Benghazi that had proliferated in the wake of Muammar Qaddafi's fall. Part of their mission was to find the more than 20,000 missing MANPADS, or shoulder-held missiles capable of bringing down a commercial aircraft. According to a source on the ground at the time of the attack, the team inside the CIA annex had captured three Libyan attackers and was forced to hand them over to the Libyans. U.S. officials do not know what happened to those three attackers and whether they were released by the Libyan forces. "

So were attackers in custody and released?

"According to sources on the ground during the attack, the special operator on the roof of the CIA annex had visual contact and a laser pointing at the Libyan mortar team that was targeting the CIA annex. The operators were calling in coordinates of where the Libyan forces were firing from. "

This is concerning. Laser Designators do not just 'point'. They use specific codes that must be synched with the air-borne munitions delivery system. If the report above is true that means Woods and Doherty were in contact with a pilot or done operator and had synched up codes and the munitions were close enough to start targeting. But the munitions were never fired. Were on-station assets ordered to 'stand down' even after the ex-SEALS exposed themselves and were awaiting the LG munitions, only to be killed by the team they were targeting?

Maybe David Ubben can shed some answers on this last one. He was on the roof with Woods and Dohtery that night.

Dad of US bodyguard 'blown up twice' in Benghazi says State Department should admit mistakes - World News

"He said David Ubben described the violence on Sept. 11 as "obviously an attack and not a riot," and sketched out what appeared to be a sophisticated mortar attack during the second wave of the assault. That took place at another compound where U.S. and Libyan personnel retreated, and resulted in the death of Doherty and Woods.

"What I wanted to know was whether the second part of the attack was pre-planned. The first (mortar) dropped 50 yards short and the next two were right on target," he said, adding his son "was not conscious for any more."

The carpet is not big enough to sweep all this under the rug.

Benghazi? The war in Iraq? Hmmm. Which is more significant?

While we're at it, let's investigate who ordered that "Mission Accomplished" banner on the aircraft carrier in '03. The banner also was one giant whopper.

Hey, investigate anything you want, I'm all for it. Start a thread. However, can you stay on topic on this one? As Ive previously stated, attitudes like yours are why administrations believe they can, and often do, get away with things.

Is this an impeachable offense? I'm thinking no but of course I'll be accused of having blinders on.

No. Even if the president has not been truthful he wasn't under oath so no crime has been committed that I know of. Administrations lie, nothing new there.

Depends on what they lied about.

So how do we find out who lied about what? And then once we find out then what?

Hearings, under oath with most of the on-the-ground people to get the real answers. And then hearings, again under oath, of the political elements.

One problem or issue may be that most of the 'political' elements have turned over since September. While more difficult to bring back in that can be done.

A tell-tale sign on momentum will be the type of hearing. The Repubs can only call hearings in the house. And there will likely not be independent hearings in the Dem controlled Senate. But if there is a call for joint hearings and they are held that will mean there is momentum as the Dems in Senate will have political cover to participate.

I would look for any stonewalling to come from Brennan. He can claim national security issue and try to shut the whole thing down. The 40+ people in jeopardy were working at the CIA annex. It was executing covert ops - likely tracking down and retrieving weapons from the old regime. The 2 drones that showed up pretty quick were probably part of that operation. So look for Brennan to make a move to put this ice claiming that operation can not be exposed.

Who knows? There has been a cover-up and no real investigation of what has transpired. Had it not been for a determined investigation of Watergate, then there would have been no impeachable offense and Nixon would have served out his term. Obviously lying (when not under oath) and incompetence are not impeachable offenses but we do not know what actions this administration has taken to keep witnesses quiet.
Okay. So they lied. Now what?

How about they be held accountable. That's a lot of what is wrong with this country these days, no one wants to accept responsibility and be held accountable.

Okay. Hillary isn't on the staff now, right? What can be done to her so she is held accountable?

I still don't believe we'll ever know the truth.

Very direct.

Love how Judge Jeanine set up the piece with a salute to "church, the Pledge of Allegiance and the love and support of Mom and Dad." Thank goodness for Fox.

You may be right but if Americans just shrug and do not insist on an investigation, then we will certainly never know what happened. Not only that, the Obama administration and their successors will interpret the apathy toward political corruption as a green light - and rightly so.

Agreed.

I'd like to at least know who ordered the stand down.

Also, why change the talking points, why is our administration afraid to mention terrorist, or jihad in same sentence. It is what it is.

* RULE 5: “Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon.” There is no defense. It’s irrational. It’s infuriating. It also works as a key pressure point to force the enemy into concessions. (Pretty crude, rude and mean, huh? They want to create anger and fear.)
