May 25, 201313 yr Even though Tressel always got smoked by the SEC anything would have been better than some of the guys the previous staffs brought in. The old UK recruiting philosophy of trying to unearth a team full of diamonds in the rough just wasn't that effective. Yeah for every Randal Cobb they found there would be a pile of (un-named player, I think he has family on BGP) that couldn't catch a cold let alone a football.
May 25, 201313 yr UK picked up a verbal from a stud OL from Lakota East. Picked UK over Nebraska, WVU, Wisconsin, and Vandy. Kentucky Sports Radio » Blog Archive » All You Need to Know About Jarrett LaRubbio
May 25, 201313 yr RT @RowlandRIVALS: LaRubbio is rated the No. 29 overall prospect in Ohio; he's the fifth top 35 commitment for UK from the Buckeye State. RT @RowlandRIVALS: Only UK and Ohio State have more than ONE top 35 commitment from Ohio. OSU has six, UK has five. RT @RowlandRIVALS: UK's class now ranked No. 16 nationally just behind Ole Miss. That's No. 7 in the SEC. Avg star ranking = Texas, Florida.

Stoops is really putting in some work, that's for certain.

May 25, 201313 yr Just shows how little effort the previous staff gave to the program. I'm not sure I believe that's all it was, but it definitely shows that they were probably overvalued considering what they brought to the table.
May 25, 201313 yr Just shows how little effort the previous staff gave to the program. That's partly true but Coach Marrow and his connections PLUS the excitement Stoops has generated all the driving factors. UK had no Coach Marrow nor did they have excitement.
May 25, 201313 yr Author That's partly true but Coach Marrow and his connections PLUS the excitement Stoops has generated all the driving factors. UK had no Coach Marrow nor did they have excitement. All true. But, then again Brooks had just achieved a level of success that Kentucky hadn't seen in a while. They went to four straight bowl games, if you can't build off that and create some kind of excitement or at least keep the momentum going something's wrong. I mean the bottom just totally dropped out overnight. I'm just glad Stoops has restored the program to at least Rich Brooks level (which IMO is a success at UK), although he has to get the wins on the field first. The way things are starting out though he may be able to do that and then some. He's put a buzz around the program that probably hasn't been here since the Bear. That's saying something in such a short time.
May 25, 201313 yr I guess my point is you can't recruit from Ohio only and expect to compete in the SEC. Trust me nobody knows this better than me. That's why you see UK with so many Ohio guys, Urban no longer has the open door to all good Ohio players. I do think UK is doing a nice job building a core from Ohio but there gonna need some big time player makers to surround. Of course how you develop it is a huge part as well. I like what UK is doing with the stop gap recruits and I hope they find the national play makers to go with it. There is no reason UK can't be a step better than Vandy.
May 28, 201313 yr Another sign of the change at UK: opposing coaches are now telling Ohio recruits that Marrow is a short-timer at UK. Worried about his ability to pluck talent from Ohio.
May 29, 201313 yr Ohio State will seldom ever lose a recruit they are going all out for to Kentucky. Being real Kentucky, who I like more in football then basketball is a bottom feeder. Ohio state is inferior to the upper SEC team right now,but still much, much better than Kentucky. Edited May 29, 201313 yr by Randy Parker Rule 8

Not all Ohio recruits are good enough for OSU. Didn't work well under Tress and the SEC, hopefully, it does for you all but you see them what 6-8 weeks a year? Eeek.

I don't think anybody said UK was going to steal recruits OSU really wanted, but I do think they will get most of the leftovers (instead of Mich, Mich. St., WVU, Cinci, Purdue, Illinois, etc.).
