Boston Bomber, Should he have civilian trial or not?

Featured Replies

He should be tarred and feathered....then hung in downtown Boston.

Im still trying to figure out the pros or cons for the government doing this. What is the benefit of a civilian trial?

He's a Citizen of the United States and has Constitutional rights to a fair trial by a jury of his peers. The benefit is that our country follows the constitution no matter how horrible the crime is, which ensures that all Citizens receive their constitutionally protected right to a fair trail in the event they are charged with a crime. There are no con's in my opinion.

Not sure where I stand on this. My knee jerk reaction is he's a terrorist and we need to charge him as enemy combatant. However when I actually think about it where is the line between terrorist and nut ball. Are the school shooters terrorist? The guy in CO that shot up the theater? What about a gang doing a drive by? So then I end up not really sure where I stand.

Keep in mind my stance gets clear if they tie this guy to a terrorist group.

That's because he was part of a terrorist organization aimed to bring warfare to the US. These two guys are wannabe terrorist. They were just focused on killing people, not trying to bring down the US government. Therefore they, I mean he deserves his rights.

This morning I'm seeing that there doesn't appear to be any link to a terrorist organization so he should have a civilian trial.

And we know he wasnt a member of a terrorist organization how. Because he said so, of course he will say so.

Don't think he's said anything, he can't talk.

I'm conflicted on this. I loathe the fact that he is going to get an attorney who's going to try to muddy the water any way he/she can and try to elicit sympathy for this killer. I remember an interview that McVeigh did at the behest of his attorney in an attempt to soften his image. It sickened me. I don't want this guy to have a platform in the media and yet we know that his attorney will use the media, and I'm afraid there will be many in the media that will passively assist them because it fits their agenda.

On the other hand I do believe in the rule of law and that it should be in effect at all times, not just when it suits the situation.

Serious question. At what level does it stop being a simple crime ad elevate into taking up arms against the country?

If we do the obvious and kill the killer, how much money will be saved by not having a trial?

I'm curious as to how we know that this fast.

IF and that is a big if, there is no link to foreign players then he deserves to be prosecuted just as any American citizen committing a crime on soil would be. The difference between this and the guy that drone killed is that he was on foreign soil taking up weapons and planning against America.

Timothy McVeigh was prosecuted in Federal Court for a very similar crime, I don't see a big difference.
