You are way too caught up in stereotypical players in college. Do you realize that not every D1 point guard is the same height and weight? Look at Nate Robinson making a career for himself in the NBA...is that prototypical? Look at Marcus Paige at UNC, a top tier program, around 6'1'' 155lbs....

 

Please tell me who stopped Bolden this year? NO ONE did...and he hung up 29 on Mr. Kentucky Basketball as a sophomore. What more can you ask of a kid? He has just as good of offers as Hawkins does as a Sophomore with the exception of UK....but let's be honest here what if MC lost in the first round of state Tourney and what if Hawkins doesn't win Kentucky Mr. Basketball? I am not bashing the kid whatsoever because I like his game but I am being realistic. He is arguably coming into the top recruiting class UK has ever seen and Wiggins still may end up there....if you really think that Hawkins is going to get PT there your crazy! The only way he is going to get PT is if all these McDonalds All Americans leave and UK has a down recruiting class.

 

I still don't understand why everyone feels the need to compare age...in reality it's completely irrelevant because at the end of the day Bolden is still a sophomore and he still has two seasons left in High School. Regardless of his current size he is going to continue maturing and become even better. As I said in my previous post, don't read into prototypical size and strength this kid has the "IT FACTOR". He will have the better college career hands down if Hawkins stays at UK for 4 years.

 

Also, Hawkins isn't a pure PG. I believe it was stated by Clyde earlier in this thread that Butler passed on an offer because in AAU they only saw him play the two. Well if Hawkins plays the 2 at UK, his mismatch is going to be more severe than Bolden's guarding at the PG spot at that level of play. SG's at high major basketball can range from about 6'2'' to 6'6'' Hawkins isn't that big. Finally, from a PG prospective Bolden and Hawkins it isn't even comparable. The only thing Hawkins has on Bolden is strength and couple inches. Regarding skills and natural ability Bolden is much better.

 

I'll say it now Bolden will have the better college career and his potential is through the roof.

First, wow... Are you comparing Bolden to Nate Robinson? Haha. Robinson is an NBA player. A rare breed. If not comparing, then are you saying you believe Bolden will one day be in the NBA? That's a BOLD statement. Secondly, I agree that not all PGs at the D1 level are 6'3 or better, but if you look at the majority of the really good ones, they are. But, also, pg's don't always guard PGs. How does Bolden stack up against a guy like Kidd-Gilchrist or Liggins, both obviously of UK, and both great defenders. If Bolden is as great offensively as most on here say,then you would have to not just match him up against another teams pg, but their best defender. And, MOST really good defenders at that top tier are at least 6'5 or better. Can Bolden handle that night in, and night out?? Maybe. I hope so!

Holmes' James Bolden plans 'dream college' visit to UK

 

James "Beetle" Bolden has been a busy guy since his breakout performance in last month's Sweet Sixteen.

The Holmes point guard is hoping to pick up his fourth scholarship offer soon, and he has spent the past few weeks working out with the Lexington-based Travelers of the Nike-sponsored EYBL.

On Friday, Bolden will make his EYBL debut in Los Angeles. It'll be his first trip to the West Coast and his first time on summer basketball's biggest stage.

Bolden and the Travelers are scheduled to play 19 games in four different cities over the next six weeks. The circuit's regular season wraps up in Minneapolis next month, when Bolden gets a chance to face off against Tyus Jones, the No. 1 point guard in the class of 2014.

Any update on James's UC visit on Tuesday? Did it happen?

I may be wrong, but Hawkins seems to have matured at an earlier age than Bolden. As a 17 year old senior, it appears that Hawkins did not just show up this year with that body. Has he been this size for the last couple of years, maybe adding a few pounds? Point is, just because 2 kids are the same age does not mean they have both fully matured. Love Hawkins game and he may fill some nice minutes as a Junior or Senior with UK. I would describe Hawkins as an athletic, physical guard that may or may not contribute at UK, but only time will tell. Seems to be a great kid and I truely hope to see him get good minutes for the Wildcats. I would describe Bolden as an offensive skills phenom, who has 2 years to work on the few flaws he may have. Needs to grow a little and add some pounds and based on what I've seen, he's not done growing. Again, only time will tell with that. As a fan of Kentucky HS basketball, I hope to see both of these young men excel. I think we all feel a since of pride when we see a Ky kid playing on such a high level.

Better? Weren't both about equal in their matchup. And, didnt Hawkins hit shots down the stretch to pull it out for his team? Head to head, Hawkins is one up on Bolden (of course it's a team game).

 

That being said, age and grade do matter in regards to size. The point was made that Bolden has 2 more years to grow, as if to say he was 15 or 16 and could grow into the 17 or 18 year old body of Hawkins. However, if they are the same age, and Hawkins has a bigger body than Bolden, then age does matter in regards to size.

 

I love Boldens game and hope he brings a SC to Holmes and NKY, also hope he gets to UK, but I think to get that serious UK offer he'll need to get bigger.

I'll go on record as stating that Bolden will be a stud in college, while Hawkins either sits the bench his whole career at UK, or ends up transferring out due to lack of playing time. Write it down and dust it off in a few years.

 

Not sure about that. After all, Polson got quite a bit of PT at UK this year. Hawkins is a better player, IMO.

I think he's "bigger" than Butler but we will see starting this week end out in L.A just how good he is. Excited to see how he does.

My guess is if these schools are are offering him as a soph it's not with the attentions of him sitting on the bench.

Alabama has called about James. No surprise since the #1 assistant coach is the brother of Grant Brannen.

UC saw him in LA and were once again impressed.
