April 7, 201313 yr Watching the Cardinal game today and tomorrow they are going to honor Stan the Man. He is the greatest Cardinal player. Who in your eyes is the greatest red? Not your favorite but the greatest.
April 7, 201313 yr Gotta be either Rose, Morgan or Bench. Robinson is an all-time great but did as much or more as an Oriole. Rose is probably the most famous but played several years away and was never considered the best at his position. Morgan is one of the best 2nd Basemen of All-Time and was a league MVP when the Big Red Machine was the best of the best. Bench spent entire career as a Red, was the best at his position during his playing days and arguably no worse than the 2nd best catch of All-Time when he retired. Hard to pick one! My favorite is Bench but not sure if he is the one greatest Red of All-Time, but he is in the conversation.
April 8, 201313 yr If everyone removes the "Rose" colored glasses, I think it will be clear to see that Bench is the greatest Red of all time. He is considered the greatest catcher of all time. Leads the team in RBI. Won 10 Gold Gloves. 2 time MVP. I love Pete Rose as a player but Bench is the greatest Red.
April 8, 201313 yr Pete Rose was the heart and soul of that team. If we can put the ban and the reasons aside, he has a record that will never be broken. Ever. For the record, Joe Morgan is my all-time favorite Red. But I'd have to vote for Pete as the greatest.

This is their top 3. 1. Joe Morgan, 2B: There is a number that measures a player's all-around baseball ability - at-bat, defensively and on the bases -- and assigns a number to it. (We'll call it the "Q number.'') In 1975, Morgan's Q of “12'' is matched in history for a single season by only Ruth, Hornsby, Mantle, Bonds, Yastrzemski, and Gehrig. Length of time as a Red is the only thing I would have against Joe Morgan as ATB Red. Only 8 out of 21 seasons with the Reds, hurts him IMO...that said he was a stud and IMO does deserve consideration.

Seriously even with Concepcion in at SS, that would arguably be the best infield in history. All on the same team, at the same time.
