South on their A game is clearly the best team in the region but we can't go on teams bringing it each and every night. I'd say that you have 4 teams in the region with better chances than anyone else at upsetting south. Those teams in no particular order are Cawood,Clay, Corbin, and North Laurel. The reasoning behind me picking those 3 teams to have the best shot are depth. They have solid starting fives and can go deep into their bench with above average talent. A lot of that talent may not be showcased each night due to coaches liking shorter rotations but depth is a big factor. Barbourville just doesn't seem to have the depth of those 3 teams. Pineville is in the same boat as the Tigers. Their starting fives are as good as anyone in the region minus South but the bench is oh so much shorter.

I think Barbourville's starting five goes 6'2 (Cox), 6'1 (Vanover),6'4 (Good), 6'4 ( Grubb) and Crawford is listed at 6'5. Their bench drops off to about 6'0 I assume but I disagree I personally believe that them and Clay have the size to match up with South. But either way it takes a great game and a poor game by South. The chances of both happening on the same night are slim, so why worry?

Three times. All three in the Corbin tourney. Barbourville's size looked to be very exaggerated in the Corbin Tourney Program. They are a solid ball team, but do not match up with SL size wise or athletically. They could have improved a ton since I saw them in the Corbin Tourney...... but I'm willing to bet that SL has too.

It doesn't make sense to me, to say that a team CAN beat SL, but to say that they WILL NOT, and state it as if it's a fact. I agree with you, that it is highly, highly unlikely, but I don't agree with saying No, as if it is a definite answer, without any other possible outcome. It just doesn't make sense. And we've all seen teams throughout HS, College, and Pro Sports lose to far inferior teams. It just happens every now and then, without any cheating.

 

How does that not make sense.... It CAN happen, meaning it is possible...... but it WONT happen, meaning it isnt probable.

 

Get back to me at the end of the season and let me know if any 13th region team beat SL. It could happen...... but if your willing to bet that it will, then PM me and I will see how much I can get out of ya! :thumb:

Crawford is not 6'5. I saw that listed in the Corbin Tourney's program and when I stood next to him on the court he wasnt 6'5. I am around 6'1 1/2 so I am saying that he is probably 6'3, 6'4 at the most.

According to the Litratings, South Laurel is 19.8 points better than Barbourville, 14 points if you go by the Cantrall Ratings. Using the same ratings (which, by this point in the season are pretty accurate), SL is anywhere from 6-10 points better than Brossart.

 

Personally, I think SL poses too many matchup problems for a Brossart, and would beat them by 15+. SL poses the same matchup problems, but even more extreme, for Barbourville. But I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and say Barbourville could keep it under 20 if they play well.

I think the Tigers have a legiate shot if they can keep shooting the ball well.Also they must stay out of foul trouble to have a shot.I have seen South play a number of times this year and they have been impressive in each game except the game at Corbin.They didnt shoot the ball real well that nite and if Barbourville can get them on an off nite it could be interesting.The point guard matchup is even in my opion.Both guards do an outstanding job in running there teams offense.I no these two teams may not meet but i would just like to hear every ones opinion if they were to meet in the regional tournament.

I did agree with you Les.... but after SL layed it to NL again last night, and Clay fell to BC...... not to mention that SL played pretty sorry and still came away with a 17 point road win against Corbin a few weeks ago...... I say no team in the 13th has a legit shot of beating SL.

South Laurel is in a league of their own in the 13th. Everyone else is playing for second place. If SL happened to have an "off" night, someone may play within 15 of them, but that's about it.

As long as there's even one working school bus left in Laurel County that can get the SL team to the game — or failing that, even a good, sturdy hay wagon — put me down for a no.

Brossart is one of the top 15 or 20 teams in the state. They are better than anyone in the 13th besides South. If South was not in the 13th then their would be a 4 or 5 team race for the 13th region title.
