A couple of Warren Central players nearly dropped it when they were raising it in 2004. I have a hunch they wouldn't have that problem with the new one.

^It wouldn't have taken a couple for the new one.

I could be OK with the new one.....if it was a little bigger and there was a platform underneath the basketball with plaque (like the old one) so the players names could be engraved.

I've not seen the trophy before, so I went searching on Google Images. If this is what they used to look like, I've gotta say...I really don't see that big a deal from one to the other.

I'd take the old semifinal trophy over the current championship trophy.

Why is "Our" state championship unique? The fact that the sport is not broken into classes like football? What about the other sports that aren't classed? Shouldn't they have a unique trophy as well? Or should they continue to have the same trophy (that is now basketball's new trophy)? I agree that the trophy needs to change from what is currently being used but it should change for ALL State Championships. IMHO

It has nothing to do with title IX.

 

He said it was to get all the sports to the same size.

Horrible idea. Bring back the old one.

BTW, maybe it's because of seeing the difference with the old one, but it seems to fit better to me on some of the other sports.

 

For instance, it really looks fine to me on soccer:

 

 

Baseball with the gold glove too seems OK:

 

 

But I don't know what the trophy's looked like for those sports before.
