Facebook post about Gay Marriage

Featured Replies

I think defense of marriage act should be overturned because its a state issue. I'm confused why all states would have to recognize gay marriage from states that allow it. Individual states don't have to recognize ccw and other licenses from other states now? What in the law being struck down says other states must recognize ? Are you just talking about federal laws associated with spousal beneficiary laws according to property transfer ?

DOMA was designed to prevent states from having to provide "full faith and credit" to same-sex marriages performed in other states. If that law is struck down I imagine that would lead to a host of other law suits over the matter, but there would be no federal law to protect states from the Full Faith and Credit clause. Maybe Getslow or someone can correct me.

Not disagreeing with you. Just based on other laws didn't seem there would be anything to stop state legislators from passing laws not recognizing other states licenses.

Okay. Got it. So gay marriage may be allowed federally come this June and that has people choosing sides and fighting on Facebook. Understood.

Which is kind of confusing, since the Supreme Court doesn't need to worry about public opinion and I'm pretty sure most of them probably don't know what facebook is.

 They were struggling with what a text message was when a case came up about it a year or two ago, so I have my doubts.

I don't think I want people making decisions for my country if they don't know what a text message is.

In all of this I really wonder how many couples out there are really named Adam and Steve.

Seriously. Just look at cases about the Fourth Amendment and technology. It's scary.

Of course now all of my Facebook friends are posting stuff now. I hate Facebook.

And this post has a lot of likes in a very short period of time:

Does anybody really care what I think about gay marriage? Didn't think so. I don't care for the trendy pink flags either. Reality is people don't really care where people stand on the subject. We are all going to stick to our morals either way. I'm all for standing up for yourself and your beliefs. Reality is these flags aren't going to change anything. For me the Bible said Adam+Eve not Adam+Steve. I think you're treading on really thin ice when you start changing the constitution to appease groups. End of the day it's not for me or anyone to judge. I've got straight friends I'd fight for and I've got gay friends I'd fight for. I love them both the same based on how they have treated me in life. I was raised that marriage is a bond between man+woman. Same time I've got enough problems + flaws that I'm not going to go attack certain groups based on what's in their heart. Doesn't mean I have to support it either. To each his own based on your value system IMO.

The first sentence is right on. If two dudes get the state to recognize that they are married, I couldn't care less. Knock yourselves out. If they want my church to do it, well, they'd be fighting a lost battle and might as well go somewhere else.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but tons of people on FB likely think you're old.....and I'm...well...ancient.

Yeah so get the heck out! All you jerks are blowin' up my news feed when I could be seeing spring break pictures from drunk college chicks. Did you ever stop and think about anyone other than yourselves for once?

According to this post if he/she was raised to believe that whites were the superior race that would still be true too, I guess.
