I wish they let you pick your top 100 channels. 1.00 a channel and I would do that.

Same, I pay around $100. I love the service it just seems like a bit much to pay for TV.

 

Same conclusion I came to.

I bundled DirecTV and Windstream phone services this week. The old combined bill was around $220. New bill for both will be around $170. So that may be something to look into.

 

You can try to get discounts on new or changed service. Best time to do it is when upgrading to DVRs or adding services like whole home DVR.

Just switched from Direct to Dish for money reasons & got the Hopper. It has a glitch or two, but I like it overall. More DVR space (or so it seems) & I can record up to three shows at once. Having two televisions, I can start watching something upstairs and then pick it back up downstairs if I so choose. I think Direct now has a similar thing (the Genie?), but I don't know much about it.

 

However, Direct is the better of the two IMO. They have channels in HD that Dish does not have (ESPN News & ESPN U are the two that come to mind first). Of course, since I left Direct they have sent me at least a half dozen offers to come back & they'll match the price I'm getting from Dish & also give me a $200 pre-paid credit card to cover the cost of leaving the Dish contract.

 

But the $45 monthly savings has been worth the switch. Two years from now, I'm sure I'll be back with Direct when Dish ups their cost.

 

Had to change the name on the DirecTV account a couple of months ago, so it was like a new install. I got the Genie. It's great for Mrs. S, but I really don't watch much more than sports, history, and science, anymore. An occasional movie, now and then. YouTube videos, too. Since History has all those reality shows (Pickers, Pawn Stars, ..., etc.), I don't even watch that much anymore. However, with all of the new install discounts, I cut the cost to half of what I was paying, at least for the 1st year of the contract and it never approaches what I was paying. Mrs. wants it, so win win for me.

 

I can watch and record shows from any of my 4 TV's. I can record 5 shows simultaneously. However that is only if I am viewing one TV/receiver. If I have all 4 going, it's 2, but that never happens. There are never anymore than 2 active at a time, most of the time it's one.I don't think we've had an instance, yet, where we've needed to record more than 3 shows at any one time and I think the 3 shows only happened once.

I have had Directv since it first came out. Would never think about switching! We have every channel with 3 dvrs and one regular HD box. The great thing is the whole home DVR, love it!!! Might be pricey but you only live once!!

I too love the whole home DVR setup. It is lovely.

I'm probably headed back to Directv. I left to save some money. Came over to insight. A couple months later, I finally get great cell phone coverage at my house, so I call to cancel my home phone. Insight tells me by cancelling my home phone, they are going to RAISE my bill $30 a month to keep my cable and internet. Directv has been offering me the moon to come back to them. So by Insight's brilliant pricing, they're going to lose not one, but two of my services as soon as school is out, and I've got some time to hang around the house for an install. I don't think I'd do Dish. To me, they seem like Directv-lite, and they aren't much cheaper.

I'm not a fan of a la carte at steakhouses but I think it would be awesome to pick the channels I want and not have to deal with inflated prices due to bundling. I wanted one channel to follow UK hoops last year and had to pay $12 for multiple channels, many I never watched.

My only complaints about DirectTV are the local weather with the forecast and up to minute radar. And that would be the same with any Dish setup. Also, it seems as though the dialog is off somewhat to the actual video. Weird.
