Dish vs. Direct. Which is better?

Featured Replies

Is the Dish DVR HOpper any good.

My Direct bill went up 20 dollars after my agreement ran out and I am thinking of switching.

Just switched from Direct to Dish for money reasons & got the Hopper. It has a glitch or two, but I like it overall. More DVR space (or so it seems) & I can record up to three shows at once. Having two televisions, I can start watching something upstairs and then pick it back up downstairs if I so choose. I think Direct now has a similar thing (the Genie?), but I don't know much about it.

However, Direct is the better of the two IMO. They have channels in HD that Dish does not have (ESPN News & ESPN U are the two that come to mind first). Of course, since I left Direct they have sent me at least a half dozen offers to come back & they'll match the price I'm getting from Dish & also give me a $200 pre-paid credit card to cover the cost of leaving the Dish contract.

But the $45 monthly savings has been worth the switch. Two years from now, I'm sure I'll be back with Direct when Dish ups their cost.

What kind of sports packages does Dish have, like League pass, MLB extra innings, etc.?

You are right in my shoes also. I am going to do the same. The only difference I saw was no Disney JR or History Channel 2. Which I can live without. Also Direct did have West Coast chanells to buy, Dish doesnt.

What is the price of the buyout.

On the buyout, I'm assuming no more than $200.

They have League Pass, for sure. I don't know about everything else.

I love my Directv. I love League Pass. My 2 year Directv agreement is up but I have no plans to change for now.

How big of a pain in the butt was the switching? I love DTV but I'm also thinking about making the switching since my discounted price ran out. It can be pretty expensive.

My DirecTv contract will be up in October. Won't they work with you on lowering the bill if you threaten to jump ship?

Other than telling 7,289 Direct people that I'm switching & you can't change my mind unless you give me what I'm looking for, it wasn't tough at all. That's what killed me. I told them what I wanted on the phone, they didn't give in, but after I switched I got a call within 24 hours. Have since been bombarded with special offers through the mail.

The best way to answer your question, though, is to say I'd do the same thing all over again. In two years, I'm sure I'll be back with Direct. Those two companies treat new customers much better than they do existing customers. At least in my experience that's the case.

I think it depends on who you talk to. They wouldn't work with me at all & the two people I talked to basically said, "Okay. Leave." So I left. Then the special offers came & are still coming almost four months later.

Main reason I'm with dish, is because one reciever runs two tv's, and you can watch two different channels at the same time. Does direct still not offer this, I haven't checked in a while.

I tried to get them to go down but said no. I told them it was bull that a new customer got such a good deal adn a person who has been with them for 7 years has to have thier bill go up 20.00. The person told me I got the same deal when I joined. I did complain enough last year that they dropped my bill 20.00 so I stayed, now that my one year deal went off it went from 78.00 to 99.00 and I dont even have the movie chanells.

Direct has to have seperate recievers to use on TV, 6.00 each.

We were paying something like $108 a month with Direct & now around $65.

Same, I pay around $100. I love the service it just seems like a bit much to pay for TV.
